TODAY'S QUESTION: I was shocked to discover that there are people who don't re-read their books. While I do understand the "so many books, so little time" mentality, certain books are like comfort food to me.
Are you a re-reader? If so, tell me about a book that struck such a chord in you that it will never come off your keeper shelf.
I have a couple of dogeared books. One is Pride and Prejudice. I take it out every couple of years. I think I'll need a new copy soon. Another is This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen. I just love Remy and Dexter. Re-reading their story is like visiting old friends.
I often keep books to reread over and over. Because of time I don't always get to. But some that I reread pretty often are any of the Nicholas Spark books! And my recent favorite, Carrier of the Mark!
ReplyDeleteAhhh. Carrier of the Mark is on my most wanted list. I have (my first ever) Nicholas Sparks book on my Kindle. Need to get to that!!
ReplyDeleteI have not re-read any book yet. One day I plan to do so, but not right now. I want to finish reading my TBR pile and build my library collection and then when I have that established in a few years, then I can reread :)

I re-read. My favorites are the Tamora Pierce books. I'd say I re-read a series or two of hers a year, finishing up all of them every 3 years or so. They're just so uplifting, I love them a ton! In fact, I love them so much I often inflict them on people who haven't read them, so I have at least two copies of each in case I want to re-read one that I loaned out.
ReplyDelete@Arianne I hear you on the TBR. it's hard to find time to re-read!
ReplyDelete@Aurora I loaned This Lullaby out, and the person folded the pages over every time she stopped reading. You're so smart -- I need a keeper copy and a loaner copy!
I'm so excited about this grab bag since I missed the last two or three of them! I only re-read a few of my books. One series that I always re-read is the Seven Realms series (The demon king, the exiled queen, and the gray wolf throne) by Cinda Willmas Chima.

Hi Elin,
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you got to join us! I have never read any Cinda Willmas Chima but have heard great things about her work!
I am definitely a re-reader. I do understand that sometimes its hard when people want reviews for the ARCs they sent you. However, whenever I am spending family time or on vacation, I bring a stack of books with me to re-read.
ReplyDeleteI have reread a lot of childhood favorites this past week. Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Its fun not having to worry about deadlines.

Hi Emilia,
ReplyDeleteGlad you stopped by!
Those are some of my favorites too...
Well, I guess I'll answer this in two parts. First, there's my actual bookshelf in my room, stuffed almost fully with books. A series I really love and want to re-read through the years is Harry Potter. I feel like it's so rich with details and different characters that I could read them over and over and learn something new each time.
ReplyDeleteBut I also have a virtual shelf on my Kindle. That's basically where all my classics are that I enjoy like Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, Hamlet. Those novels in particular I'd love to revisit as I get older and see them through a new light.
My "to-read" list is practically a mile long, but I hope to find time in the future to re-read stories. :)
There are definitely books that I re-read although not as often since I started blogging because getting through new ones has taken up a lot of that time.

I don't reread my books often because I always have a pile of books that haven't been read yet and so there is no time to read my old books. I do go back to some books like Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins and read my favorite parts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! :)

I re-read some books, the ones that I truly love and have fantastic writing or good memories with them. I don't do it often though; I usually wait a few years between re-reads, when I've forgotten some (or most) of the book in question.
