TGIF 1

I'm excited to join TGIF this week, hosted by GReads.

Today's question: Social Networking. Do you use it to promote your blog? How has it benefited your blogging experience?

My answer: One of the things I've learned in life and in blogging is that you have to be open to new things, then decide what's right for you. And what's not. I mean, we're all stretched thin, time-wise. I think social media is a perfect example of that. You have to try things out and pick and choose. Here's where I stand:

Twitter:
All of you who know me know that I heart Twitter. I had a personal Twitter account a few years back, but no one I knew was on Twitter back then, so eventually I shut it down.

When I started blogging last year, I knew I had to get back on Twitter. What a happy reunion! Twitter suits my personality to a T. I'm impatient, I'm a diehard multi-tasker, and my mind goes about a hundred miles an hour, so Twitter just syncs up with my brain perfectly.

You can find me here on Twitter. Twitter sometimes randomly unfollows people on my behalf.  So if you think I should be following you, or if I unfollowed you, shoot me a @. We'll straighten it out.

Facebook:
I'm on Facebook. I check in once a week or so. But it's not really my thing.  Facebook feels sorry for me and keeps asking me if I want any help finding any friends, and I'm like, "Nope, I'm all good."

Goodreads:
I also love Goodreads. Be my Goodreads friend here. Yes, Goodreads has its flaws (a few scammers and some snark-fests) but overall it is an amazing community of readers. I'm doing the Goodreads challenge and I participate in some groups there. I've been having amazing luck swapping ARCs there over the past couple weeks. Check out my IMM this Sunday!

Pinterest:
I learned about Pinterest thanks to Heather @ FlyleafReview. Now all my friends are reading about it and they think I'm so cool because I'm already on it. It's a huge time-suck, so I try to limit my visits there. You can check out my boards here.

Networked Blogs:
This TGIF has inspired me to straighten out my NB mess. It's fixed! Please follow me there!

Let me know in comments -- what are your thoughts on social media?

  1. Oh twitter!!! Such a time suck, but it's so necessary and addicting. I don't really use FB either. I always forget about it lol. Pinterest is so addicting, but I haven't been on in weeks. I just joined formspring too. OMG talk about addictive. Goodreads I think is a must. How else would we keep track of all of our books. :)

    1. I'm afraid to check out form spring. I'm getting maxed out!

  2. I'm not a huge Twitter fan. I hardly post anything on there at all. Not sure why, I'm guessing its because none of my close family and friends are on there.

Facebook tends to be what I do most for family and friends. I am a girl scout leader and I have a troop page to keep my parents informed on everything. But I don't get into the games, etc.

Goodreads is my favorite social site. I don't know anyone on there personally outside the world of books. Its the best site to keep track of what you are reading, reviews, and book recommendations.

  3. I had a personal twitter before I had my blog, but I think I had like 6 tweets? I wasn't really sure what the heck I was doing. And I used to be a Facebook JUNKIE! I mean, I'd go on my phone app multiple times a day and scroll down all the way until I got to what I had already read. Ridiculous! And now that I'm so busy with my blog and all the comments, I find myself not even going on there some days! My friends are like, "Um, I feel like you've been MIA recently." I feel bad, but I really just don't care about Facebook as much as I used to. But I love Goodreads! (I've added you, BTW!) And I enjoy Pinterest, but I only get on there every few days. Okay, now that I've written my usual long comment, I'll go. ;) Happy Friday!

    1. Love your long comments!
I read an article recently about how some people are getting disenchanted with FB. I just do what I enjoy. As I get older, I realize that's what it's all about. If something is making me miserable, I try to minimize or eliminate it!

  5. I don't use Twitter as much as I probably should - and now that I've heard about so many people connecting with favorite authors on there, I might have to get back on it a little more :-)

  6. I go on twitter more often than I go on Facebook. It use to be the other way around.

  7. FRIDAY?? I'm half way through the weekend already. That's just sad.

I haunt blogs, but I don't Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, I do visit Goodreads to read reviews.

  8. I love Twitter! I used it for my musician stuff, but found that it really didn't benefit me one way or another. But I find it works with my book blog. I love meeting and chatting with other bloggers, authors, and publishers.

    Happy FF! :)

  9. Love this post Jen! Thanks for the shout out btw:) I'm not on Twitter as much as I'd like to be, I'm hoping to get a little more involved soon. And I have a private FB page, but not one for my blog, thought I'd hold off a bit and get a grip on this blogging thing before I tackled that. But Pinterest? LOVE it. I'm a visual person so it's a perfect fit<3
