YA: Hot off the Presses April 10-16

Hot new young adult titles you won't want to miss!

Are you wondering what great new YA books come out this week? Me too.

In this new weekly feature, I'll highlight some of the great new YA books that are releasing each week. This week focuses on YA coming out April 10-April 16. Then we can discuss where we stand: buy, borrow or bypass.

Releasing today, Tuesday April 10:

The Calling : Darkness Rising 2  by Kelley Armstrong
The Book of Blood and Shadows by Robin Wasserman
Belles by Jen Calonita

The Calling: Darkness Rising by Kelley Armstrong Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman Belles by Jen Calonita

Releasing Thursday April 12:

Ghost Flower by Michele Jaffe
Radiant Days by Elizabeth Hand

Ghost Flower by Michele Jaffe Thou Shalt Not Road Trip by Antony John Radiant Days by Elizabeth Hand

I reviewed Ghost Flower last week -- check that out if you missed it.

I have Thou Shalt Not Road Trip and Book of Blood and Shadows requested at the library.

I really liked Darkness Rising and have even been to Vancouver Island, where the series takes place, so I think I may put The Calling on my "buy" list.

Belles sounds intriguing. My library didn't order it yet, but I'm going to keep an eye out for a copy.

Radiant Days:
I'm a little confused about this one. It looks like it might have been scheduled to be released back in 2009 under a different name, Wonderwall.   Reading the blurb reminded me of an embarrassing moment when I was younger and thought there was a poet named Rambo. Cool! Whoops, no. It was Rimbaud. Awkward!

Okay, but all that aside, Radiant Days could be my kind of book. It sounds a little like Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly, with the modern girl and the artist from the past.  Could be a buy!

What are your thoughts on these?

  2. I love this feature. Makes it so much easier to know what books come out when. Oh and I am totally a book buyer. Sometimes I get a sample for my Nook or kindle app but I always end up buying the book.

    1. I try to borrow what I can, because I have a great (and seemingly underused) public library and a giant TBR pile. But I also end up buying a ton.

    1. That is so nice of you -- but I can't enter this year. The rules say you have to be 18 and up (yes!) live in the US (yes!) and have blogged consistently about books between Feb 2011 and Feb 2012.

That last part is the problem. I've only been blogging 6 out of those 12 months. So I'll enter next year if they run the contest again!

  9. Ooohh, can't wait to hear your thoughts on Thou Shalt Not Roadtrip, you know I like those journey of self discovery type reads! And yes! Radiant Days does sound a bit like Revolution (which ROCKED) but doesn't seem to be getting much press, hmmm. And I am dying to read The Book of Blood and Shadow. I love secret society themes!

    1. Well, we shall see.
Yes, I think Revolution is a YA tour de force. I mean, she captures Brooklyn Heights helicopter parents, the French revolution, modern Paris, rapping -- is there anything she can't do?

    2. And you know, I really didn't like Andy in the beginning of Revolution. I almost put it down because I thought she was such a brat. But she totally redeemed herself. That book has so many delicious layers to it, it blew me away!

    3. Same. I think I started it and then put it down. Then a friend insisted I try it again. Thank goodness b/c that book is AMAZING.
