Extra! Extra! is my weekly Sunday post featuring brand new additions to my TBR pile as well as a summary of what's new on the blog.
Today I'm linking to Stacking the Shelves @ Tynga's Reviews and Sunday Post @ Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Check out the great blogs that have posted their Sunday news over there....
Today on Extra! Extra! I'm talking about BEA. I was lucky enough to be able to go for the first time, so I wanted to try to give you an idea of what it was like. As I entered the giant convention center, I saw the Cassie Clare/Shadowhunter steps that lead up to the main exhibition floor.

Photo by Rex Robot Reviews. Thanks -- mine didn't come out. |
So already I was excited. Right outside the main exhibition area was more cool stuff, like this Reached bubble.
These people in lab coats wanted me to get in there for a photo. Nuh-uh. I have claustrophobia issues. Or, you know, maybe it was a clever alien abduction ploy...
But it was pretty cool. Then I saw this banner for The Diviners by Libba Bray. So excited about that book!
.
On the main exhibition floor were lots and lots of booths set up by publishers and other book-related people. Each aisle had a kind of street number and each booth had its own address. I have NO sense of direction, had no map and my BEA phone app kept crashing, but there were also huge signs overhead to direct me. So of course, I was looking up, walking into people in front of me.
At the far side of the convention center, there was an autograph area.

Each author had a timed slot and numbered line. That part was pretty fun, because I got to talk to people around me in line. There were a LOT of books. Luckily, there was a very conveniently located shipping center, so people who live out of town could send their books home.
Yes, I got a LOT of great books. But not hundreds or anything crazy like that. I carried one tote bag and tried to be selective, picking out things I knew I wanted to read and trying to find new and exciting titles I hadn't even heard of. I think I got maybe thirty books and ARCs in all.
Here are a few that I'm excited about. Click on the photo to get to the Goodreads page
The Diviners by Libba Bray (historical-supernatural-mystery)
1920s New York + the occult + a serial killer + awesome Libba Bray. Yeah!!!
Adaptation by Malinda Lo (sci-fi thriller)
A strange accident on the Extraterrestrial highway. Whisked to a military hospital with mysterious injuries. See, I told you alien abduction is no joke :)
Burn For Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian (contemporary)
At the Blogger's Breakfast, Jenny Han said she's never seen Revenge, but this book sounds perfect for the show's fans: three girls bent on getting revenge on people who wronged them. Sign me up!
Time Between Us by Tamara (time travel romance)
A guy from 2012 falls in love with a girl from the 1990s. Love this concept. Can't wait to read it!

If you were at BEA, tell me: was there a book that eluded you? If you didn't attend, tell me what was new with you this week.
Great Post! BEA was a whirlwind! My second day there at least I had a bit more of a sense of where everything was! Great books! The one that eluded me? Ten by Gretchen McNeil!
ReplyDeleteMy Added to the Bookshelf Post.
♥ Melissa @ Melissa's Eclectic Bookshelf
I got Ten in the autograph line, but missed Crewel by Gennifer Albin, which was everywhere ... except where I happened to be :)
DeleteBEA was so crowded and awesome. I got to meet so many awesome book bloggers and got to discover some new books. The one book that i couldn't get was Breathe by Sarah Crossan because the line was insane and they ran out of copies.
ReplyDeleteGrace
I heard that there was a huge line for that on Thursday!
DeleteI love that Reached bubble! What a cute idea to have that, well for those not claustrophobic. :)
ReplyDeleteIt must have been a great experience to talk to so many other bloggers in line.
Time Between Us! I think this ranks 2nd (behind Prodigy) on the list of BEA books that I am dying to read! Can't wait to hear what you think! Enjoy your new books!
Well, if I had been wearing a long red dress, I would have jumped right in!
DeleteGreat post! Love the pics! Hope you had a wonderful time! And the books! 0.0 LOL I'll drop by later for my haul!
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun!!
DeleteAwesome post!! I am only commenting on pt one so I don't repeat myself in pt. 2. It looks like you had a fabulous time! I love the pics you took. You got a lot of great books too!!

DeleteYou sound like you had so much fun. Wish I could have gone... The Reach bubble is awesome... Have a great week..

Another year maybe. And thanks for taking my "Which Angel Book Should You Read" quiz....
DeleteOh wow! BEA looks amazing! I was kind of avoiding the posts until I knew it was over so I had no clue what was going on, but it looks like it was a great time.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
It was! I met so many amazing people and what a treat to talk books for four days straight :)
DeleteWow..thanks for sharing all the picks of BEA. I am going in 2013 and cannot wait! Vacation this year made it impossible :( Congrats on all the books and I think you were sensible to be selective. Thanks again for being a part of The Sunday Post
ReplyDeleteI look forward to meeting you :)
DeleteI'm glad you had lots of fun ay BEA! I wish I could have gone, would have been amazing! I also got Adaptation this week and am pretty excited to read it!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy all the great books you were able to snag! Happy reading and have a wonderful week!
SO excited about Adaptation! Glad you'll be reading it too :)
DeleteGreat Books! I wasnt at BEA :( ugh, Burn for Burn sounds amazing! I have read the first chapter, and I liked it! :D amazing picutes too!

I'm excited about it. I mean, who hasn't fantasized about getting even with some horrible person??? Can't wait!!!
DeleteOh wow! I am definitely going to BEA someday. That photo of the stairs was amazing! The Libba Bray book and that time travel book sound great! Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI hope you can come. Meeting book bloggers, librarians, booksellers and authors was the best part!
DeleteAww sorry you're claustrophobic, but I think you caught them in their master plan to abduct all the book lovers at BEA ;) So jealous of Burn for Burn, it looks absolutely awesome! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Stacking the Shelves!
Oh, and I saw your comment on my blog. :) Yep, no brother this time, but he DID crawl across on the floor when I was showing off my birthday tiara -.-
DeleteSomeone said it was up on NetGalley? I didn't see it there, but I'm generally the last to know stuff..
DeleteThe Diviners looks awesome!
ReplyDeletehttp://carabosseslibrary.blogspot.com/2012/06/in-my-mailbox_10.html
I can't wait to read it!!
DeleteI haven't heard of Adaption. I'm going to have to check it out. Thanks for sharing some inside pics! I love reading about people's BEA experiences. Thirty books is still a lot. Happy Reading! My Stacking The Shelves & Sunday Post
ReplyDelete-Melissa @Harley Bear Book Blog
I was happy. Thirty is plenty for me to read ;)
DeleteThis year was my first year as well, and it was awesome and overwhelming! I wasn't as selective as you, but I thought I was tame compared to others I saw around me, and yet I ended up shipping 70 pounds back home... Thanks for stopping by my blog! If you go next year we should meet up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the BEA pics! I love hearing about it. =)
ReplyDeleteI read 'Burn for Burn' from Netgalley already (I couldn't resist!) and it was a lot of fun, and DEFINITELY good for Revenge fans.
Here is my STS post.
Yay -- I'm a huge Revenge fan. My husband is a little freaked out by how much I enjoy it!!
DeleteThose stairs are amazing. What an entrance...
ReplyDeleteTime Between Us sounds really neat - I love the idea of it being a more "recent" time traveling (as opposed to the WAY back/travels)...Very cool concept.
I know. The 1990s doesn't seem like that long ago. When I realized that the 1990s was historical, I was kind of depressed....
DeleteOoo, great pics! I love seeing everyone's different perceptions of BEA! I was there, for a little bit, lol! SO much fun! Enjoy all of your new books :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry we didn't see each other!!!
DeleteThanks -- I had fun visiting your blog:)
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I kept forgetting to take pictures, and it didn't even occur to me to take pictures of the publisher signs. Those did make finding things easier!
ReplyDeleteAdaptation and After both eluded me, as they ran out before I got there. But I still managed to bring home lots of awesome titles, so will survive. :)
Enjoy all of your new books!
Alexia's Books and Such
I didn't manage to get either Venom or Crewel. Just kept missing them wherever I went. But I had a fantastic time!
DeleteTime Between Us looks really good! I'm glad you had such a great time at BEA maybe someday I'll be able to go =) Thanks for checking out my IMM!
ReplyDelete~Paige @ Comfort Books
Would love to meet you one day!!
DeleteThat Reached bubble is so awesome!!! I would have taken an epic picture in that thing of me trapped trying to get out. You should have taken a pic in it! BEA looks so awesome. I think I would be squealing and jumping up and down like a 5 year old lol
ReplyDeleteYes, I can see you getting VERY excited. And I would love to meet you!
DeleteThanks for all the pictures! That giant Reached cover is definitely awesome!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my first vlog!
Clean Teen Fiction's STS
Great blog!! Thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteThe amount of books would have made me giddy with joy!! Like a child at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI am giddy. And still tired!
DeleteSo much fun Jen! Great haul also! Loved the pics and the books you picked up! I love the Ally Condie cover thingy!
ReplyDeleteMine-http://wwwthebookshelves.blogspot.com/2012/06/stacking-shelves-28-surrender-cinder.html
Thanks. Stopped by and also sent you an email about that giveaway we're planning!
DeleteAw man, I would have liked to see ALL the books you got haha :D
ReplyDeleteLike a giant pile? I can take them off my shelf and do that. Maybe next week. And if you click on that link above that says "Yes I got a lot of great books" it will take you to my BEA Goodreads shelf.
DeleteI'm SOOOO disappointed that I missed taking a pic in the Reached bubble. I loooved it and the only day I actually saw it was the day I forgot my phone. SO FUN. And so good meeting you! I didn't see Abduction at all, but it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI would have taken a picture with you. I only saw the bubble on the last day, which was indeed the day you forgot your phone.
DeleteSuch a good haul! Have fun reading!!
ReplyDeleteHere is my Sunday post!
Thanks so much! I enjoyed reading your blog. Glad your reading slump is over!
DeleteThere were a few books that eluded me, but I got my top 3, so I really have no complaints. I didn't get The Diviners or Burn for Burn, but Kim from On the Wings of Books did, so I will just beg them off her. It's so cool looking at everyone's BEA posts, because I realize that there were tons of books I didn't even see or hear about on the floor. Can't wait to hear what you think about Adaptation, because that was one I never saw. ;) In fact, out of your four, I only got The Time Between Us.
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled upon Adaptation when I was lost, looking for the ladies room. Typical! And I can't believe I missed Holly Black. I love the Curseworkers series so much!
Deleteoh my gosh, that Shadow Hunter staircase is AWESOME!! I love all your recap pic's, I almost feel like I was there. Coolest part (other than the staircase), the Fed Ex shipping store is RIGHT there:) AND I checked out your books you picked up, HOLY CANNOLI, Jen! You scored! I am so anxious to read The Raven Boys, keep me updated when you read it and let me know what you think:)
ReplyDeleteI did get a lot of good stuff!!
DeleteWoot~ Looks like so much fun..wish i went. good for you!
ReplyDeleteNext year maybe??
DeleteWow those stairs are so awesome, it's the same as my poster lol. And I am so loving the Reached bubble I can't wait til the book comes out. The biggest thing I did this week was go to my first casino. Unfortunately I lost money but thankfully my bf won that back. Still had fun so it was all good.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds exciting! Sorry you lost money, but at least you sort of came out even in the end!
DeleteIt's cool and I swear the blackjack machine knew my cards lol. But yea we actually came out on top which made me happy.
DeleteDid you seriously get The Diviners? Soooo jealous. Love Libba Bray. Love. Her.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love that Reached bubble. I probably would've spent way too much time right there. :P
And you're right...alien abduction is no joke. I was convinced my dad was a pod-person growing up. (I'm still not fully convinced he's not.)
Glad you had such a great time. I hope to go next year...or one year. :P
Yep. I love Libba Bray too. I will read anything she writes!
DeleteI think it was the people in the white lab coats that freaked me out. And they might have had a clipboard too. I was like, no thanks. You can get someone else in that bubble. Not me.
Be careful, those aliens are everywhere! ;)
ReplyDeleteMan, BEA looks like such a fun yet overwhelming time! I really hope I can go next year! Thanks for sharing all the pictures!
Oh, and I just got caught up on Revenge. Seriously CAN NOT wait for Season 2. I hope Season 1 comes out on DVD soon so I can watch it all over again, because I know for a fact I didn't catch everything!
Revenge was great!!!
DeleteAnd I do hope you can come to BEA next year. It was SO much fun to hang out with Kim and Steph and Kate :)
Great post! Glad you could use my post:)
ReplyDeletepost = picture. haha
ReplyDeleteI knew what you meant :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I should have taken mine first thing in the am. People kept walking into my photo. I'm like, excuse me, can you please GET OFF THE SHADOWHUNTER STEPS.
Luckily they didn't call security on me.
