  1. I would have loved to have read Unbreak My Heart at the beach. All the boating in the book... it would be a great set up. :)

    1. That would be a great choice. I'd re-read that at the beach!

  3. I've never been the type to have a certain genre for "beach reads" but I do like to read old favorites. I almost always end up napping (and subsequently, sunburning) underneath the sun so an old favorite is great. If I fall asleep in the middle of a familiar scene, it's okay cause I know what happens anyway.

This summer, my stash includes Harry Potter, Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier) and The Bronze Horseman (Paullina Simons) among others. : )

    Happy Friday!

  10. I really like books with beach themes or just books that are really light. Pretty much anything by Sarah Dessen, John Green, or Elizabeth Scott! Also, I recently read Of Poseidon and I really liked that, and the Summer series by Jenny Han is PERFECT for summer!

  11. I don't really have a specific book, but anything that is a light, quick, fun read is ok with me.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Perfect summer read: My Life Next Door. I absolutely ADORED that book and can picture myself reading it every summer for the rest of my life. :) I actually plan to pick up the Summer series by Jenny Han at some point, too. Oh, and On the Island...I've heard amazing things about that one. But ya know, I'd just be happy if I could get through some of the books already on my shelf and on my Nook. :P

  14. I've never been to the beach...But I'd read Jenny Han's 'Summer' series. They'd be perfect. :)
I also think 'The Raft' might be good, in a scary kind of beach read way. :)

    1. The Raft -- sounds scary. Yeah, I probably would not read Jaws at the beach!

  15. I don't really have a specific genre, but in the summer I like to read books that are a little lighter or funny.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This may sound silly, but my favorite beach reads are the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series. I'm a huge paranormal romance nut, and I don't consider some of them to be great beach reads, so whenever I'm at the beach I do end up taking that series with me and tan while I read. It's light and full of mythology and I never get sick of it. My new beach read will hopefully be Rick Riordan's new series when I finally get my hands on it!

  32. Any book that doesn't require too much thinking is a beach read for me. I want to be able to just relax, enjoy it and be able to put it down/pick it back up with ease. I usually pick up chick lit and stay away from mysteries.

    Replies
    1. Yeah, I get "beach brain" at the beach and quite enjoy that!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am not really a beachy type of girl (no beaches here). Although i would love to be on the beach!

  37. I don't have certain genres that I read at the beach. I just read anything! Although anything water-y would be great to read at the beach. Like I recently picked up Of Poseidon. I didn't read it by the beach, but I purposely tried to sit next to a fountain at an outdoor café since I thought the running water would be appropriate for a mermaid story :D

  41. For my beach read? I would love historical romance, something with a lot of fluff and very sexy men ;)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I loved Graffiti Moon & Five Flavors of Dumb & I think they would be great beach reads. Graphic novels are also great for the beach. Also any of Melina Marchetta's books just because I love them all =)

    Freebie Friday is awesome, thanks!

  43. The best beach reads are ones that are light, but still leave you with ALL THE EMOTIONS. A book that has a hefty portion of beautiful, heart-clenching (the good kind) romance and an equally wonderful, fresh plot. The kind of book that imprints on your heart and makes you feel better, almost renewed, after reading it. I'd definitely recommend ANYTHING and ALL THINGS by Sarah Dessen, who I have deemed the contemp queen. Or the Summer series by Jenny Han.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Now that is an excellent point. I think being at the beach does bring up all kinds of emotion.

Have you read Moonglass by Jessi Kirby -- that is exactly the kind of book you described.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Any YA book is good for me. Right now I'm reading Golden Lily but I wouldn't say it would be a good beach read because I will devour it and forget about the beach.

Hmm.. I don't really go to the beach so I don't know what to say. People say Sarah Dessen but her books don't really excite me.

    ReplyDelete
  57. You know what's sad? I live in a beach town and I haven't read on the beach in FOREVER! LOL! I really need to do that at least once this summer! For the beach, I would most likely choose a contemporary read :-)

  58. It's funny because I can't read the typical beach read at the beach. But I can be completely engrossed in any Jodi Picoult book, be it The Pact or Vanishing Acts or any other book of hers anywhere, especially at the beach. 62. If I hadn't already read the 50 Shades books I would say those would be my Summer read. Think I might just read them again! Of course, this is what I would pick if I lived even remotely close to a beach. Sadly, Kentucky isn't close to anything. :(

  81. I love a good romantic comedy or light contemporary for the beach :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Perfect beach reads for me are romantic comedic contemporaries like The Boys Next Door by Jennifer Echols (or really any of the Simon Pulse books); as long as the book isn't a heavy paperback and the topic is light, I'll be happy!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I wouldn't say there is a specific genre, but to read it at the beach it needs to be very interesting and keep my attention, otherwise the lull of the relaxing ocean waves, and the warmth of the sun will lull me to sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Hmm... okay, the weird thing's that I only like reading indoors- not so much on the beach. (I believe the beach's for swimming :P) But maybe something funny would be nice to read there. :) Nothing dark or supernatural. (Unfortunately, those are about the only books I read, lol!)

You know what, honestly I think any book would do. I'm not picky, Just take me away and I will be a okay!
