Extra! Extra! 15

Extra! Extra!

Extra! Extra! is my weekly Sunday post featuring brand new additions to my TBR pile as well as a summary of what's coming up on the blog.

I'm home this weekend, so I'm linking up to Sunday Post hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer and also Sundays in Bed With hosted by Midnight Book Girl.

Edited: Kate's post isn't up yet, so we'll see about that last part. But today, I'm in bed with.... Will Herondale!

Jealous? I'm enjoying this series so much!

What's new around here? I'm doing a pretty good job on my book reduction plan. Soon I'll get my pile way down by drawing winners for my July comments contest. A few more days to get those comments in!

I do have new books to report:

Auracle by Gina Rosati, which I reviewed yesterday.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

And I'm giving away Throne of Glass -- to enter, just click here -- and I'll likely be putting Auracle up for grabs in an upcoming Freebie Friday.

What else happened this past week on the blog?

Monday I reviewed Spark by Amy Kathleen Ryan and unintentionally sparked a debate on type size in books. Read the comments!

Wednesday was St Vladimir's Summer School.  Our assigned reading was Blood Promise.

I also have a winner to announce:

Tayte's run of good luck continued as Rafflecopter selected her as the winner of Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry. Congratulations, Tayte! It's a great read :)

What exciting stuff is on deck for next week?
Monday: Even though I'm a nervous flyer, I screwed up my courage and read Survive by Alex Morel. Did this harrowing plane crash thriller push me over the edge?

Tuesday: Hot Off the Presses AND I'm notifying winners of the July comments contest. Still time to get those comments in!

Wednesday: The gang and I are still in summer school. This week we're reading Spirit Bound, book five in the Vampire Academy series.

Thursday: The winner of Throne of Glass will be drawn!

Friday: Freebie Friday makes a comeback!

What's new with you this week? Leave me a comment or a link and I'll visit you back!

  2. The Infernal Devices? That's on my too read list, but I'm trying to hold out closer to the release of the last one - but they are so pretty on my bookshelf and getting harder to resist.

I can't wait to see your thoughts on Survive!

    1. Yep, I'm really enjoying it so far. At the rate I'm going and the length of the books, I predict I'll be done reading book two right before Clockwork Princess comes out!

  3. Infernal Devices is such a good series!!! I can't wait for the last book to come out. As for your books this week, I've heard Throne of Glass is super good!

    Enjoy all your reads! :)

  4. I got in a big stack of books this week which makes me so happy! And I'm just looking forward to August as July has felt like a rather long month.

Interesting comments about the font size of a book-I tend to notice more when the font seems big and the spacing is big, like the publisher was trying to make the book look longer than it really is.

    1. I was just over there and saw your stack -- nice!

Yeah, I think my ideal font size is around 12 point. I'm a fast reader and I like the font to big enough to be easy to read, but small enough so that enough text fits on the page.

I have noticed that font size of most books is getting larger. If I pull out some of my old classics, they have very small, tightly spaced print.

  5. I <3 Will!

I am so looking forward to Throne of Glass!

Very curious to read your review of Survive this week. It's on my list but I am not sure I can read it. EEK!

You can check out what books I got this week here!

Can't wait to hear what you think of Seraphina!

  6. Ok...several things. I don't give out 5 Stars often, but I gave them to both Clockwork Prince and Pushing the Limits that you mentioned above! And I believe Spirit Bound might have gotten 5 Stars from me too. I'm a huge Richelle Mead fan.

    Check out my Sunday Post.

  9. Infernal Devices is a great series! Love :-)

I wanted to tell you that I got to go to the RWA convention in Anaheim, CA this week for the "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing. I got to meet so many wonderful authors, both YA & adult. There was actually more YA authors than I thought there would be. It was wonderful!! Everyone I met was so nice. Some of the YA authors I met were Brigid Kemmerer (super sweet! This was a squee! moment for me: http://www.brigidkemmerer.com/2012/07/every-reader-counts-ie-how-to-make.html ), Jennifer Estep, Sophie Jordan, Jordan Dane, Robin LaFevers (my friend bought her book) and a few others. I also got to meet some of my favorite adult authors. It was so cool!

  10. Kate's on vacation at the beach this week (sigh.) so I don't know if she'll be posting today or not. I'm very interested in hearing about Survive, it looks really good (and I hope you handled the plane parts ok!). It feels a little Alive-ish and I really enjoyed that one.

  12. It's not airplanes for me, it's cruise ships. I'd rather go splat that end up in the ocean with sharks and other things that could eat me. lol

I can't wait to read Throne of Glass either - that's too odd that the cover model looks like the author, she must be gorgeous. I think I'm with you, 12px is about the right size for type for me too. Anything bigger looks childish, anything smaller gives me a headache.

    Fun post!

I have been away this weekend and didn't take my book so I need to play catch upto get back on track. Been watching the Olympics well trying to since there are so many events. Go USA. Let me know how Clockwork Prince is when you read it. Oh and I ordered The Lying Game so that should be coming soon. I love the show so I hope the book series is just as good.

I am finally reading This Is Not A Test (from the library, of course) and it starts with a bang doesn't it? Wow!
Also, have you notices how books are also coming out with colored ink? Masque Of The Red Death definitely did. It was a very dark red. I kept thinking I was confused but I showed it to someone and they agreed. Weird.

  23. I really love The Infernal Device Series!
I absolutely love Will (it's hard not to) and I'm counting down the days till Clockwork Princess is released.
I also finished reading Team Human yesterday, and one particular quote (the one about the penguin) literally made me laugh out loud.

  24. I am not jealous because I would never want to be in bed with Will. I am in bed with Jem and well wait until Clockwork Prince pages 201-207. There just may be some Jem bed action. I may or may not have worn those pages out and there may or may not be that same scene written in Jem's POV. Throne of Glass sounds good. I wasn't sure about reading it but all the talk has definitely persuaded me.
