I was so excited to attend the BEA (Book Expo America) Authors' Breakfast back in June. The speakers were John Green, Lois Lowry,Walter Dean Myers, and Kadir Nelson. The event was hosted by Chris Colfer, who plays Kurt Hummel on Glee.

One of the goody bag presents was a copy of Chris Colfer's new book, The Wishing Spell. It came in a beautiful box with a note from Chris!

Chris has been working on this story since he was a child -- his grandmother helped him with the editing!

At the breakfast, he shared some of the drawings he made of the story world when he was a kid, and had the audience laughing at the stories he told about emailing his illustrator, Brandon Dorman, with suggestions and feedback.

For a complete video of the event, see Chris Colfer's Tumblr.

You can win this boxed ARC as part of my Back to School giveaway, which runs August 9-17. These are the dates each book you can win will be featured!

  1. What a great idea for a giveaway. I really need to read my copy of The Land of Stories, everyone else seems to be reading it now!

  2. Thanks for sharing the link to this video. Colfer has been one of the best parts of Glee and I'm so happy to see that he loves fairy tales just like I do-the idea behind the book is a great one!

  8. I picked this up the other day and started reading it in the store. I would love to win a copy so that I could finish reading it! I'm such a fairy tale spin fan. Don't even get me started talking about Once Upon a Time, because I could go on for hours. :)

  9. Ok I LOVED the author's breakfast and Chris Colfer was such a cutie and the fact that he has had this idea since he was ten is amazing, but I'm not loving the book like I wanted too, which is a little disappointing. But Chris Colfer is still awesome!

  11. It's time for---Andrea's Behind So Let's Catch Up On Blogs! This time, it's the lovely blog of the even lovelier Jen Ryland! GO!

;) Seriously, I get SO behind, and this time it's even worse because I'm even behind on responding to comments on my blog! Yikes! So here I go with my usual Comment-athon!

I love that picture from BEA--John Green looks like he's geeking out! :D And although I've heard some not-so-great things about this book, I still really want to read it because I think it sounds cute and I love that he's been writing it forever. Most celebrities seem to just write simply to break into another market and their books sound really bad a lot of the time... But then again, I don't think I've ever read a book by a celebrity, so I can't really talk.

Very cool giveaway, and congrats to Veronica for winning all of these books!
