Welcome to Freebie Friday: Halloween Edition!
I love Halloween. The chance to pretend you're someone else for a night is so much fun.
Then there's the candy! I buy mine at the very last minute so I don't eat all of it. And my kids know that I sneak into their rooms when they're asleep and steal the Almond Joys out of their little plastic pumpkins. In my defense, they don't even like coconut!
I also love scary books and movies. Well, those that aren't TOO scary. My preference is for ghosts and witches.
My perfect Halloween movie marathon:
Halloween (1978) Yes, this is technically a horror movie. But because it's so old-school, I can handle it.
Ghost Busters (1984) A little comic interlude. This one is such a classic! Symmetrical book stacking! Ghosts with OCD -- that's the kind of ghost I'll be.
Silence of the Lambs (1991) This is also borderline too scary for me, but it's such a great movie. Usually, when a movie is made from a book, I think the book is better, but in this case I think the movie might be! Clariiiiiice! I get chills just thinking about it!
So, for a chance to win your choice of one these scary books AND a zombie finger puppet:
Dearly Departed by Lia Habel (zombies!)
This Is Not a Test by Courtney Summers (even more zombies!)
Haunting Violet by Alexandra Harvey (ghosts and seances!)
Velveteen by Daniel Marks (a vengeful goth ghost girl!)
Break My Heart 1000 Times by Daniel Waters (ghosts and a serial killer!)
... give me your favorite Halloween confession in comments. Tell me about:
- the best costume you ever wore OR
- what candy you can't get enough of OR
- what movie/book scares the pants off you!
Open internationally. Accepting entries until Sunday at 8 am EST.
And don't miss the chance to enter my Halloween Spooktacular Blog Hop Giveaway! MORE scary books to win and more finger puppets up for grabs....
Here's the Google Doc so you can leave an email -- if your comment links to an account/blog/page that has an email link, the zombies and I will find you. Heh heh heh....
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is one of the scary/creepy books I've read this year, I kept my head looking from side to side, because I sense there is something supernatural around me cos I am the only one in our house that time, and the book gave me shiversss.ReplyDelete
Yes -- my favorite part of that book is that you don't know if she's nuts or not. I love books like that!Delete
My favorite scary movie is The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Love it so much! And I was Ke$ha for Halloween last year, which was fun. LOL. And I totally understand why you steal those Almond Joys... delicious!ReplyDelete
I have never even heard of that movie.Delete
And LOL I can totally picture you as Kesha. Send me a picture!
I can't do the really scary thrasher type movies. Gah! All that blood and gore. Yuck! I do like suspense movies like Silence of the Lambs. Though.ReplyDelete
My favorite costume was a couple years ago I dressed up as the devil in a red dress and my husband was an angel, complete with white wings. Which is so far from our personalities. I'd love to redo it and make him a fallen angel in all black.
I always steal all the Reeses Pieces and anything with dark chocolate. Well actually my girls just hand it over at this point.
I'm with you. Too much gore means I can't even eat popcorn while I'm watching.Delete
I LOVE paired costumes like that. Unfortunately I can never convince my husband to go along with my wacky costume schemes.
Yeah, at this point, my kids just hand over the coconut. Cause they know it's pointless to try to keep me away from it!
Mmmmm. Coconut! I'm the only one in my family that likes coconut to so I always got all the mounds and almond joys!ReplyDelete
I'm not a huge fan of scary movies (I'm a wuss), but I do LOVE The Ring. It doesn't matter how often I watch it it scares the living hell out of me. Just thinking about that girl crawling out of the TV gives me goosebumps. It was made worse because the first time I saw it I was still living at home, and I had a TV in my room, right across from my bed. I didn't sleep good for weeks!
My least favorite scary movie of all time is The Blair Witch project. I remember it being scary at first, but once they came out that it was fake, the movie then became really lame.
Happy to find so many coconut fans. What I want to know is this: why can't they make an Almond Joy with dark chocolate? That would be perfection.Delete
I have never seen The Ring. It sounds too scary for me :)
Movie: The Ring. I hate this movie! And I hate Samara that creepy girl LolReplyDelete
Another vote for the Ring! Maybe I'll try it. Or not....Delete
The Ring did scare me when I first saw it. That creepy girl climbing out of the TV! Any scary movie involving kids gets my heart pumping. I find children extremely creepy! Like in Insidious and paranormal Activity 3! Freddy used to scare me when I was little and the Penguin from Batman because he ate a cat! I was very upset since I love cats. Candy anything chocolate, crunch bars, twix, kit cats, anything with caramel, and I also love sour punch straws and pop rocks! I love all my costumes. I was a grim reaper, nerd, french maid, nurse, firer woman, gladiator, and vampire. I love the teeth! The guy that dress up as a night stand and are a one night stand always crack me up! I just love Halloween!ReplyDelete
Evil children in movies are creepy, I agree! Are you dressing up this year???Delete
Favorite candy? Hmmmm, probably Reese's. Anything chocolate. Ahhhh i can't wait :)ReplyDelete
I know -- I buy non-chocolate candy for kids who have nut allergies, but all night I just sit there and eat all the M&Ms, Almond Joys, Mounds, and Snickers....Delete
There isn't a movie I can think of that's really, truly scared me... weird. But my favorite costume was way back when I was around 12 and completely obsessed with Grease. haha I was a pink lady and pretty much died of happiness when I found that costume. Today they're everywhere, but at the time they were kind of rare, so me finding it was like, the greatest thing ever. hahaReplyDelete
Happy Halloween in advance! :)
I was SO obsessed with Grease when I was a kid. It's funny how you remember those moments when life seemed absolutely perfect because you found the costume you wanted :)Delete
Are you Afraid of the Dark by Stephen King is the first book that scares the bejeezus out of me. I made me afraid of the dark after I read it.ReplyDelete
Books usually scare me less than movies. I do love Stephen King, but I don't think I've read that one!Delete
Hmm scary movie for me is Candyman. I watch that movie as a kid and I could not stay in the bathroom for fear that he would come out of the mirror and get me! LOLReplyDelete
That one sounds WAY too scary for me!Delete
My best costumes were some Disney princesses-I had amazingly detailed Belle, Snow White, and Cinderella costumes. Nowadays the costumes always look really cheap, not super accurate, and have the princess's face on them. Not mine-they are very very similar to what is shown on-screen. Yes, I have them saved for the daughters I hope to have some day!ReplyDelete
Yes -- costumes aren't what they used to be. I used to make all mine. But I don't think I saved them!Delete
I don't do the hardcore scary type movies, anymore at least. I've always loved the Scream movies though. Halloween is my favorite time of year, besides Christmas, so I love all the decorations and pumpkin picking, etc. As for the candy? Yeah I pretty much love it all. LOL But my faves are snickers, twix, reese's peanut butter cups and three musketeers. Oh and baby ruths. (See, I told you I loved it all!) You can have all my almond joys though, because I don't like coconut. :)ReplyDelete
I'll trade you, because I don't like that fluffy stuff inside the Three Musketeers. Send over your coconut!Delete
I love Helloween candy! Anything with chocolate will do, I always steal it from my little sister.ReplyDelete
Hee hee -- glad I am not the only candy stealer..Delete
lucky 13 ;)
I am not big on scary movies. When my husband makes me watch one with him, it consists of me pacing around the room, peeking around the corner from the kitchen, covering myself with a blanket or covering my eyes and peeking through my fingers lol :) my fav. Halloween movies are Practical Magic and Hocus PocusReplyDelete
Ha ha -- that sounds a lot like me. My husband is still mad at me for having to walk out in the middle of a movie once.Delete
I have such a love hate relationship with scary movies! I love to watch them but I usually end up freaking myself out. Lol :D But I do still watch them. Like American horror story asylum. But things like the ring,The Grudge, oh and yes Silent Hill! 0.0 plus I hate those bathroom scenes. Too!ReplyDelete
Happy Reading Jen! :)
P.S I also noticed I'm also reading Dearly Departed! Crossing my fingers for velveteen!
How do you like DD? If no one picks it, I'm reading it myself!Delete
I don't have a Halloween confession.... the best costume I ever wore was my ex-boyfriends' football uniform and did zombie makeup to my face. As a girl it was funny and frightening.ReplyDelete
I can't get enough of Halloween kisses!! Which is cool since that is the candy that everyone else seems to hate. More for me!
And the scariest movie to watch this time of year, for me, is Halloween! Classic and yet you won't want to babysit alone!
Love the idea of a zombie quarterback. Isn't there a ZFL game you can play on your phone.Delete
Yeah, Hershey kisses are too sweet for me. I'll send them all to you.
My favorite scary movies to watch is the Halloween series, but most scary movies don't really scare me. I also really like the Paranormal Activity franchise.ReplyDelete
The Halloween movies are classic! I'm not sure I can handle Paranormal Activity...Delete
I'm definitely a chocolate over candy person when it comes to Halloween. Reese, Coffee Crisp, KitKat, OHenry, Snickers - I could go on and on and onReplyDelete
Yeah, I just don't see the point of the non-chocolate stuff!Delete
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Halloween!! It's my kind of Holiday 'cause I love anything horror, monsters, and OHMYGODS candy! I am a total horror-junkie...I dont know what it is, maybe I like being frightened, but I can't get enough horror movies/books. Some movies that have seriously scared the Hades out of me are The Grudge, The Ring, and The Fourth Kind (and this one it was only because I THOUGHT it was based like on a true story or something). One of my fave movies is Devil! Its just awesome! And a recent movie I've seen and liked is The Woman in Black.ReplyDelete
There's something about the combo of the candy and the costumes and the spooky that is just perfect!!!Delete
My favorite candy for Halloween is Candy Corn! Thanks for the chance to win!ReplyDelete
I will send you all my candy corn!Delete
I love Halloween!I'm going to go with the best costume, but technically I didn't wear it, my best friend at the time did, and it made for a very funny night. She made herself into a dictionary, but because of the cardboard she couldn't walk well and I had to go up all steps for her. Later that night we were walking and she stumbled and fell into a ditch. We couldn't stop laughing because of it, but she ended up being okay. We had to wrestle her out of the costume to help her out too.ReplyDelete
Ha ha -- I love stories like that. It's a good thing she had you to help her out of the ditch!Delete
The scariest book that I ever read is probably the one I just finished: The First Days by Rhiannon Frater!ReplyDelete
Halloween candy...lots of them are irresistible! I love Wunderbar, M&Ms, Eatmore, Reese Peanut Butter Cups...yeah, it's all good!!
I have heard amazing things about her books and I have Pretty When She Dies on my Kindle. I should read it for Halloween!Delete
I don't watch a lot of scary movies, but when I was 12 I watched "It" and it scared the pants off me because ever since I have been afraid of clowns!ReplyDelete
LOTS of clown-phobes around here. Did you read my interview with Laura Bickle? Hilarious clown discussion. Just scroll down a few posts!Delete
I love Halloween, but I am such a wimp when it comes to horror movies/books. My all-time favorite Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus if that tells you anything :) I can watch the old Michael Myers movies, although even they scare the pants off of me. I think it's the eerie music and the creepy mask! As far as books, I just bought the Mara Dyer books, so I'm going to give them a try.ReplyDelete
My favorite Halloween candy is Reese's peanut butter cups. I buy those for trick-or-treaters in hopes that there will be some left!
Is Michael Myers the Friday the 13th movie guy? I watched a bunch of those before I got wimpy!Delete
My favorite candy is probably, oddly, jolly ranchers. I'm a fruity kind of gal :) and, for the record, I hate scary movies! I'm the biggest chicken. I just can't do it.ReplyDelete
I do enjoy Jolly Ranchers, especially the sour apple ones!Delete
Woohoo! I love LOVE Halloween...so much that it being on a Wednesday this year just means I get to celebrate it twice! :DReplyDelete
So, I hate to admit this but I am SUCH a little girl when it comes to scary movies, but I loooove scary books. I generally get freaked out by most scary movies but man, if the movie features some scary crawling creepy girls (like in "The Ring") then I'm probably about to pee myself. Heh Heh.
Maybe I will try The Ring. Maybe....Delete
Jen, I was so proud of myself the other night because I watched one of the Halloween movies..at night...by myself (minus my husband snoring on the couch which is scary in itself). Afterwards, I had to watch something funny to offset the scary, even though it wasn't too bad. I cannot for anything watch Freddy Kreuger. No way!ReplyDelete
After trick or treating, I am like the Candy Police because I go through everyone's and pick out what I like to put in a bowl high up so they can't reach it (usually I have a hard time too since I am so short lol).
I actually just finished a pretty creepy book about twins ( I have twins mwhahahahaha)that are evil. Red Rain by R. L. Stine.
Oh and I can't handle the Paranormal Activity stuff. Too real for my tastes.Delete
Candy Police -- that's what I will call myself. I am removing offending coconut from my kids treat baskets. I'm doing them a favor!Delete
LOVE twin stories. I'm going to check that out!
The movie that really scared me was Paranormal Activity... Well, when I first watched it, I really thought that it was real... Even my friends think so... But after a few researched I found out it was not real... When I was watching it, I was literally covering my eyes, I was just peeking through my hands every now and then...ReplyDelete
I never wore costume for Halloween and I never received a candy during this time... We never celebrated it anyway...
A lot of people are saying that The Ring and Paranormal Activity are super-scary, which means I need to stay away from those!Delete
I don't scare easily but Silence of the Lambs scared the crap out of me! I couldn't sleep for the longest time. But Hannibal Lector didn't scare me - it was the serial killer who was planning on skinning all the girls! EEPReplyDelete
The serial killer was scary but Hannibal scared me too. That was such a great movie.Delete
The movie that scare the pants out of me is: IT, the movie of a clown. :SReplyDelete
All of you clown-phobes need to scroll down and read that Laura Bickle interview on Wednesday!Delete
I can' t get enough of cherry candy ^^ReplyDelete
thank you a lot for the giveaway
Cherry is one of my favorites too!Delete
We don't really do halloween over here in the uk, we do eat loads of sweets though, the best day is the day after halloween because the supermarkets have all the sweets at 50% off! Yum!ReplyDelete
Right now we are eating too much chocolate, I have to hide it from the other half or it all disappears! And now my baby just pinched my chocolate bar! Men!
Yes, I have learned to hide my chocolate carefully!!Delete
I can't remember much about the costumes I wore, but I can't get enough of candy corn!! Also, the movie that scares me is Child's Play!! I used to watch it a lot when I was little as well. What were my parents thinking, lol. xReplyDelete
I haven't heard of Child's Play but I'm making a list and I will go look up all these on Netflix!Delete
I'm not really into scary movies now. I was when I was younger but as I've gotten older I've become more of a scaredy cat. Some of the movies that creeped me out then were Poltergeist, Children of the Corn, It, The Sixth Sense & The Ring.ReplyDelete
I can't think of a favorite costume but my peacock one from last year was pretty awesome. As for candy, I'm a sucker for almost all chocolates =) Thanks for the giveaway!
I LOVED Sixth Sense because it was scary but not horrifying.Delete
Peacock costume? How did you make that??
I actually just borrowed it from a friend but I know she ordered it online the year before.Delete
Just Googled it. Very cute, looks like a Vegas showgirl. If that is the same one!Delete
I can't get enough Nerds! I know they're just sugar, but I love pouring them into my mouth! :)ReplyDelete
Love those Lightning Lemon Nerds!Delete
I'm a big fan of scary/freaky movies. My guy best friend & I watch them together because none of my girlfriends will watch them with me. One of my favorites will always be The Shining. Another one that freaks me out is Poltergeist. That is where my fear of clowns began...(freaky clown doll!)ReplyDelete
I love that so many people are afraid of clowns. Last summer a friend and I went to stay with our other friend at a house she rented. There were three of us and I said I didn't care which bedroom I had. I was getting ready for bed and my friend came running in all freaked out and asked if I'd switch rooms with her. I said, sure, whatever, and she showed me this adult-sized clown costume hanging in the closet of the room she picked. I thought it was sort of hilarious but it freaked her out so much that she couldn't sleep in that room.Delete
Now I tease her all the time about evil clowns.... I wish I'd taken a picture of it.
My favorite costume was from high school when I went as Rosemary from Rosemary's Baby with short blonde hair and a little fake belly, running around creaming about the devil. Granted, no one really got it but I got to wear a really sweet Mod little black dress and shoes and I love the movie so it was a win for me.ReplyDelete
The book that gives me the worst creeps is Shirley Jackson's The Lottery and Other Stories. I like to read it every winter when cabin fever is just starting to set in. The Lottery is probably the best known story, along with the Haunting of Hill House and and We Have Always Lived in The Castle but the lesser known stories have an ever deeper feelings of paranoia, desperation, and confusion with some of the best examples of unreliable narration.
That is an awesome costume idea -- I love it!!Delete
The Lottery is a great story - that is the only one of hers I've read.
I haven't read those many scary books or watched too many horror movies. But Anna Dressed in Blood was definitely a creepy and gory read for me.ReplyDelete
Loved that book!Delete
The movie that scares me is Nightmare on Elm Street!!! It always has scared me :)ReplyDelete
Oooh, that's a good one.Delete
I don't know if I could pick the best costume or scary movie! But I know that I laughed pretty hard when I say a middle grader dressed up as a Teletubbie. :DReplyDelete
As for candy, well...I love chocolate so I'm not that picky. I LOVE the 3 Musketeers candy and Candy Corn is always good with me...usually anything pumpkin as well...I'm not picky. 'Cept that I'm not really partial to lollipops or jolly rogers kind of thing. Give me the GOOD stuff.
Oh! But for books I am reading the Hallowed Ones and loving it! I know how much you loved it! Can't wait till it gets creepy!Delete
It does get creepy! Just wait!Delete
Ju-On is probably the scariest movie I've ever watched. I remember the scene when this main character went inside the haunted house, and the ghost (woman) descended the stairs by practically crawling, dragging her body, chest flat to floor surface. Yes, she was crawling down the stairs! The Ring also creeps me out. The Japanese one of course.ReplyDelete
I've never heard of Ju-On. Putting it on my list of movies to look up!Delete
I cannot get enough of Reese's peanut butter cups and Reese's pieces. I hope my nieces get some this year so i can trade them for some.ReplyDelete
-the best costume you ever wore:ReplyDelete
Last year, I was a zombie Snow White! :D I had her lovely dress, a short black wig and wounds all over my face.
-what candy you can't get enough of:
-what movie/book scares the pants off you!
The ring & The grudge *shivers*
Zombie Snow White - I love that idea. You could get friends together and be Zombie Disney Princesses!Delete
The book Coraline still scares the crap out of me! And never mind the movie, I started freaking out during out the trailer... :DReplyDelete
I only like candy with chocolate in it, especially dark!
This year I'm dressing up as Marina Diamandis.
Ooh, with a little heart on your face???Delete
The candy I can't get enough of is anything chocolate since I'm a chocoholic lol. Right now I'm really loving peanut m&ms. You mentioned Halloween and yes that movie scares me. A few years ago I saw The Grudge and that completely freaked me out. I couldn't go to the bathroom and the shower and bed I was scared of. I won't even mention Paranormal Activity and the sad part is I haven't seen it. I refuse to see that one cus I will never be able to sleep again lol.ReplyDelete
It's really all about the chocolate.Delete
And yes, it's never good to watch a movie that makes you afraid to go into the bathroom!
In my country we don't celebrate Halloween, but I've always wanted to dress like a pumpkin, lolReplyDelete
About my favorite scary movie.. Paranormal Activity.. I watched it one time alone and I ended up screaming. So scary!
So many people have mentioned that one!Delete
My favorite costume ever was of an angel. I'm not usually scared by horror movies, but I love to watch Silence of the lambs on Halloween. I became sort of a traditional to meReplyDelete
I got to play an angel once in a ballet recital. My costume was pretty awful, but I thought it was fabulous!Delete
It by Stephen King! Too scary for me.... >_< My favorite scary book is Coraline by Neil Gaiman. I don't like my books too scary. :PReplyDelete
Thank you for this giveaway!
I'm with you!!Delete
I remember trick or treating in a clown costume my mom made for me that was pretty amazing. Bright polka dots and stripes on the body, big ruffled sleeves and neck-piece, a big rainbow wig, red nose, and cheeks painted bright red. That costume was a hit in the neighbourhood!ReplyDelete
Thank you for the giveaway! :)
LOL -- so many people here are scared of clowns!Delete
I am obsessed with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. A distant second are Kit Kats.ReplyDelete
Reese's are just the best. I could eat a bagful!Delete
Hi, Jen! I saw Nightmare on Elm Street 2 when I was 16 and it scared me to death! I felt like Freddy was going to come out of my chest for weeks after that! I'm not a fan of horror movies at all, but like I said, I'll watch The Walking Dead with no prob. I love the Paranormal Activity movies cuz they are so fake they are freaky cool! The Ring creeps me out but I watch it because it's a good kind of creep out!ReplyDelete
I can't get enough of ANY chocolate especially Reeses Cups and Almond Joy! Thanks for another chance at the little zombie guy :)
ineedadietcoke at aol dot com
Freddy is super scary!!!! I 've never tried the Walking Dead but a lot of my friends like it!Delete
I haven't been able to watch scary movies since I saw the first Jeepers Creepers movie. And I used to love them! And haunted houses, which I also don't do now. Severe anxiety or just old age? Who knows... :PReplyDelete
And I am shooting daggers at you right now with my eyes...I WANT DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT!!!! :P Not too much longer, though...my copy's already pre-ordered. But the wait is agonizing!
I used to love haunted houses too! Now the Haunted Mansion at Disney World is about all I can handle!Delete
Halloween candy - Snickers Bars, and they're out in the garage fridge right now. Thanks for reminding me, I'll be right back.ReplyDelete
Ooh, cold Snickers are even better. I love to put my chocolate candies in the fridge!Delete
Well, Halloween is not celebrated in here, but we usually do a scary movie marathon! Silence of the lamb is absolutely on top of the list and IT comes second!ReplyDelete
I have to check out IT. That's the scary clown, right?Delete
OK so my confession is that I CANNOT get enough of candy corn, it's like my favorite candy ever. And as for favorite scary movie well I don't really like scary movies but I will confess to watching ALL the Halloween movies (it was a marathon) at my friends house :)ReplyDelete
I am not a fan of candy corn -- but that means more for you!!Delete
Well, at the time of wearing it (I think I was about...11), I thought my batgirl costume was amazing and definitely the best one I'd ever worn. I even had a sparkly bat belt! Looking back however...it was a poorly made, poorly fitting and generally terrible outfit and the only bat-like things about it were the belt/waistband and bat ears headband! :PReplyDelete
Yes, but it had a sparkly belt!!Delete
My favorite Halloween Costume was when I was Cleopatra! My favorite scary books are The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, Poisen Princess, Needful Things by Stephen King!ReplyDelete
Cleopatra is a good one!!Delete
I do not love watching scary movies that much, because I can get scared very easily. So the scariest movie that I have ever watches was The Ring. The girl just freaked me out, and I seriously could not sleep at night.ReplyDelete
A lot of people have mentioned that one!Delete
The Exorcist. I actually was dared to see that movie and I still get goosebumps when I think about it. I couldn't go to bathroom alone for some time.ReplyDelete
I'm pretty sure I was never brave enough to watch that one!Delete
I can't get enough of kit kats and reeses they are so yummyyyyReplyDelete
Reeses are my favorites after the Almond Joys!Delete
I can't handle Silence of the Lambs! Did you know that Jodi Foster had nightmares from acting in that movie? Love Ghost Busters. I don't really watch scary movies anymore. Signs gave me nightmares for a while and I was old and married! What Lies Beneath scarred me a little bit since I went home by myself from the theater to a dark and quiet house. A little spooky! :)ReplyDelete
I get scared so easily now!!!Delete
The scariest movie I ever saw was WHEN A STRANGER CALLS (1979 version). You don't see one drop of blood, but I had to sleep with the light on for a week. I don't like scary movies - they scare me.ReplyDelete
I did a lot of babysitting when I was a teenager and I never liked the scary movies about babysitters!Delete
Ghostbusters has always scared me! Like to the point I can't really watch it!ReplyDelete
Last year a bunch of us went trick or treating as zombies. It was probably one of my favorite costumes ever.
Jesse @ Pretty in Fiction
Doing the zombie makeup is so fun!!Delete
I love being the Queen of Hearts a couple of years ago. The tights were the best.ReplyDelete
Halloween was one of my scary movies growing up.
Queen of Hearts -- I saw that costume at the store this year. Love that idea -- you get to yell at everyone!Delete
The movie that scares me the most is Stephen King's It. I am so scared by that movie that I always end up sleeping with my mom if my family decides to watch it. I just can't do clowns like seriously I can't do clowns like every time I used to go trick or treating and saw someone dressed as a clown I would purposely go down another street. Me + Clowns = NOPE!ReplyDelete
Oh and favorite candy I can't get enough of is Reese's Pieces Peanut Butter Cups. I ended up buying 4 giant bags of them from the store just for myself XD Ahhaa I love Halloween my favorite candy is on sale in such a large quantity.
Clowns and Reeses seem to be very popular choices!!Delete
One year when I was about 16 years old I could not come up with a great Halloween costume. I did not feel like wearing something I did the past year so I ended up going to a halloween shop and buying a funny yet kinda odd looking mask. It was a old wrinkled grandma with a babushka hat. I wore a robe and slippers. Every house I stopped at, or most of them would sing:ReplyDelete
Make me a match,
Find me a find,
catch me a catch...
I was totally embarrassed to say the least.
Ha ha ha -- at least you were the only one with that costume on!!!Delete
I can't get enough of orange starbursts. Just the orange ones!ReplyDelete
I like the yellow and green ones because they're more sour!Delete
IT by Stephen King is the creepiest book I've ever read. It still creeps me out to think about it! And I don't usually have a problem with clowns, but Pennywise is a whole other category!ReplyDelete
My favorite candy is...well, anything chocolate really. :) Especially chocolate + peanut butter. Reese's peanut butter cups, peanut butter M&Ms, those Lindt peanut butter truffle things. Mmmm, peanut butter & chocolate!
Chocolate and peanut butter together is really the best combination. The sweet with the salty is pure perfection!!Delete
The best Halloween costume I ever wore was an amazingly creepy/vintage/realistic zombie get-up! It was actually loads of fun staggering around, lurching, moaning .... the best part is chewing up black & red licorice aforehand and letting it dribble down your chin! lol ;DReplyDelete
Mary DeBorde M.A.D.
Wow -- that licorice is a nice touch!!Delete
Nightmare on Elm Street scares the pants off of me! It made me afraid to fall asleep! I also can't get enough of Twix and Kit Kats!ReplyDelete
I like Twix more than Kit Kats because I love that gooey caramel!Delete
OMg, the movie Rose Red always scares the mess out of me!!!! Also Insidious is up there with Rose Red, but, nothing beats it. LOL My best costume I;ve ever wore was probably when I wore a half devil half Angel costume. The candy I can't get enough of is......All of it LOL I can't decide. Thanks for the chance to win. I hope you have a Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!!ReplyDelete
Thanks, you too!! I'm a little worried that this hurricane is going to put a damper (no pun intended) on Halloween and that I will be eating all the candy myself!!!Delete
I LOVE those marshmallows shaped like ghosts and is a mix of mint, chocolate and vanilla! YUM! :) And The Devouring and Anna Dressed in Blood were both creepy- luckily my pants stayed on!ReplyDelete
Mint marshmallow ghosts??? I have never heard of such a thing.Delete
Yeah, after I wrote that I was wondering who had a dirty mind. I guess I know now!!!
I really loved The Unquiet by Jeanine Garsee -- it was super spooky! And I can't talk about scary books without mentioning Karina Halle's Experiments in Terror series -- they're AMAZING!ReplyDelete
As far as candy goes, I love ALL candy. Really. :)
I love candy, but all candy is not created equal!!Delete
Candy... I absolutely love Peanut Butter Cups! I can't eat enough of them. And as for the movies I used to really enjoy scary movies, but now I can't handle them. Especially when kids are doing crazy scary things. That's the worst for me! Happy Halloween!ReplyDelete
I agree with you on the peanut butter cups. And maybe it's being a mom that makes me not able to handle scary things -- all that real life worry!Delete
I looooooooooove Caramel Apple Pops! Ugh~ you use to be able to find them all year around and now I seem to only see them in the Halloween candy section so I gotta stock up every year!ReplyDelete
I have never heard of those and just googled them. Wow -- I need to try those. They are like apple Jolly Ranchers with caramel on top.Delete
Why did I never know about these until now????
I have to say that my best ever Halloween costumes were when I was little. Like, my first ever Halloween costume I was a chocolate kiss and my Dad was my big Hershey bar. (You know how much cuteness and convincing it must have taken to get a six foot three lawyer ex baseball/basketball player into a hershey bar costume? A lot!) My second favorite was when I went as a slice of pizza in kindergarten. My face hole was a piece of pepperoni. Sort of ironic since I've been a vegetarian for over 10 years. lolReplyDelete
Awww. Your dad loves you. That must have been adorable!! I hope you have pictures!!!Delete
Candy I can't get enough of: Twix, Payday, KitKat, & Butterfingers. Yumm!!ReplyDelete
I don't get the Butterfingers. What is that brittle weird stuff inside???Delete
I love Halloween candy! I can discreetly swipe teeny tiny bags of M&M's. I love Peanut M&M's but I'll eat plain in a heart beat.ReplyDelete
Yay --- another candy swiper!!Delete
Thanks for the giveaway.ReplyDelete
There is a movie that is old and I watch it when I was a kid a really scares me, is The Shining, and really really scare me and even today so many year after and even when I´m 30 I can't watch it if I see that is on TV I change the channel.
The Shining is a classic!! Jack Nicholson!!!Delete
My favorite costume was when I dressed up as a 50's girl. I felt like someone from Grease.ReplyDelete
Love those sock hop costumes!!Delete
Last year I got hooked reading Zombie books right before Halloween and then on the day of I was riding my bike to work really early in the morning and I crossed paths with a opossum and oh my lord I about had a heart attack I coulda swore it looked like it was a zombie opossum all bedraggled and glowing red eyes. I got to work and told everyone and we all had a good laugh but I laid off the zombie books for awhile :)ReplyDelete
That opossum story is the best!!Delete
One of the freaking movies that scares the bejeezus out me is 13 Ghosts. NEVER again!ReplyDelete
Putting that on my list to look up!Delete
My country doesn't celebrate Halloween so I don't have any trick or treating memories. I don't like horror movies and I haven't read much horror books either though I read most of R.L Stine's Fear Street and Goosebumbs books when I was a child. I'm trying to be a bit brave this year though because I'm watching American Horror Story which I love and I'll be seeing Sinister with my friends next week. I'll probably have nightmares for a while.ReplyDelete
I've heard that American Horror Story is really good. The name of it just scares me....Delete
Movie that scared the crap out of me: Scream! Or to a lesser extent, Face Off (it wasn't even a horror movie but the creepy face cutting scene stayed in my mind forever)ReplyDelete
Candy: Any kind of chocolate. Give me some chocolate and books and I'll be a happy camper. :3
Those are two of my favorites! I agree -- Face Off is super-creepy and I love Nicholas Cage --he was in that, right??Delete
I don't like things scared me :$ lolReplyDelete
But a book, scared me was Strange Angels. I read in mindnight and was so scared.
That was a good book!Delete
Fave candy: Hershey's Special Dark miniatures or Bit O' Honey's. FYI: They taste really good together too:)ReplyDelete
Fave Halloween Costume: Back in the 90's I bought a Cleopatra wig and dressed like Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction. I even stuck a fake syringe out of my black bra for the full "shot of adrenaline to the heart" effect. My boyfriend dressed as Vincent Vega:)
Scariest Movie: The Grudge w/ S. M. Gellar STILL freaks me out to this day:)
That's hilarious!!! I love that movie, even though it's horrifically violent, it's also really funny.Delete
candy I can't get enough of? I've ALWAYS LOVED JOLLY RANCHERS. Seriously. Best. Candy. Ever.ReplyDelete
A book that scared me? And Then They Were Gone. O_O
I have never heard of that book and neither has Google. Details, please :)Delete
I can't think of a book or movie, but American Horror Story definitely scares the pants off me :P As for candy, it's gotta be starburst jellybeans! They don't have those out at Halloween time though, so I guess my favorite Halloween candy is twix : )ReplyDelete
I had no idea there were Starburst jellybeans. Clearly, I am not up to date on candy fads at all!!Delete
My favorite scary movie is The Strangers with Liv Tyler. Also, The Shining by Stephen King is the scariest book I've ever read.ReplyDelete
Thanks for the giveaway! :]
I love Liv -- will have to check that out!Delete
My fave scary book is Nevermore by Kelly Creagh-man that was a seriously creepy book! Some of Mary Higgins Clark's books were freak-out-ish too.ReplyDelete
Fave candy would be Snickers,Twix and Gummy Bears(aren't they the awesome-est?)!! :D
Thanks for the giveaway! :)
Loved Nevermore and I used to read MHC when I was growing up -- my mom read her books and I would sneak them and scare myself!Delete
