This week I'm impatiently waiting for:
The Book of Broken Hearts
by Sarah Ockler
Expected publication date: May 21, 2013
by Simon Pulse
I LOVED Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler. I not only reviewed Bittersweet here, but I also featured it on one of my most popular blog posts of all time, "Books Like the movie Cutting Edge." Who knew there were so many fans of this 90s movie about a spoiled skating princess and a washed-up hockey star?
Okay, but let's tear ourselves away from Bittersweet, which is a book about cupcakes and hockey boys, and focus on the awesomeness that is Book of Broken Hearts. Here's the scoop from Goodreads:
Jude has learned a lot from her older sisters, but the most important thing is this: The Vargas brothers are notorious heartbreakers. She’s seen the tears and disasters that dating a Vargas boy can cause, and she swore an oath — with candles and a contract and everything — to never have anything to do with one.
Now Jude is the only sister still living at home, and she’s spending the summer helping her ailing father restore his vintage motorcycle. No one wants to end up with a toaster on wheels, so they hire a mechanic to help out. Is it Jude’s fault he happens to be cute? And surprisingly sweet? And a Vargas?
Jude tells herself it’s strictly bike business with Emilio. Her sisters will never find out, and Jude can spot those flirty little Vargas tricks a mile away — no way would she fall for them. But old warnings fade fast, because Emilio turns out to be the first guy in forever she likes. Really likes. Jude’s defenses are crumbling, and if history is destined to repeat itself, she’s speeding toward some serious heartbreak…
But what if her sisters were wrong?
Jude may have taken an oath, but she’s beginning to think that when it comes to love, some promises might be worth breaking.
Okay, let's break this down. Brothers who are heartbreakers? And one is a cute mechanic? And Jude is promised her sisters that she will absolutely, positively not fall in love with him? Count me in!
Interested? You can add it to Goodreads right here:

My husband even loves The Cutting Edge - and I never forced him to watch it. His favorite quote is "Toe pick" of course. That's all he has to say and I know what he is watching.
I am behind on my Ockler books (in fact I've only read one-eep) but I like the sound of this cute contemporary-how bad can those Vargas brothers be?
ReplyDeleteYou can count me in too. Sounds great.
ReplyDeleteNow I want to chase up the movie & watch it again.
