Welcome to the 2012 YA Academy Awards!
Thanks so much to all of you who submitted nominations. Now it's time to vote -- I've narrowed it down to those characters and books that received the most votes. In categories without as many nominations, I included all suggestions.
Next week, we'll have four finalists in each category. If you want to know how your nominations were narrowed down in this round, I have notes at the bottom. But first let's get to voting!
VOTING IS CLOSED BUT YOU CAN NOW SEE WHO WON. THE TOP FOUR FINALISTS WILL MOVE FORWARD TO THE FINAL ROUND.
Best YA Leading Guy 2012
Best YA Leading Lady 2012
Best Supporting Guy in YA 2012
Best Supporting Girl in YA 2012
Best YA Drama 2012 -- vote for up to two!
Best YA Comedy 2012 -- vote for up to two!
Here are our top four nominees for Best Villain as of 9 am on Monday, February 18:
Warner from Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (11 votes)
Darkling from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo (7 votes)
Anderson (Warner's dad) from Destroy Me/Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (5 votes)
Queen Levana from the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (5 votes)
FINAL VOTING WILL BE 12:01 AM ON FRIDAY FEBRUARY 22 THROUGH 9 PM EST ON SUNDAY FEBRUARY 24.
Notes:
All candidates had to appear in a book published between January 1, 2012 and February 24, 2013.
Nominations: I had to disqualify a couple of nominations that weren't published in 2012, or that weren't published as YA. For leading guys and ladies, plus the drama and supporting guy category, I included any valid nominee that had at least two votes. For best supporting actress and comedy, I included all the nominations.
Semifinalist voting: Polls were open from the morning of Friday February 16 to the morning of Tuesday February 19. Voters were allowed to vote for four candidates in Leading Guy, Leading Girl, and Supporting Girl. In the other categories, which had fewer nominees, voters could select up to two. The poll site uses cookies and ISP addresses to make sure that voters could only vote one time per device.
I was a little surprised to see Warner from Unravel Me in the leading guy character since he was very obviously the villain to me in Shatter Me-does he change his villainous ways in book 2? Or are people just swooning for the bad boy? I haven't had a chance to read Unravel Me yet so I don't know.
ReplyDeleteOh read Destroy Me and then Unravel Me. You may just change your mind.
DeleteCool! I voted :)
ReplyDeleteMy two nominations for Villain are Metias from Legend (turned into an awful sob) and Conner from The False Prince, who should win because he is not all "I'm doing that because I'm mean", he actually believes he is doing the right thing!
ReplyDeleteHmm....I would actually say that a Thriller Nomination from me would be Divergent #3 because I am in ULTIMATE SUSPENSE mode here. But since I can't, I nominate Insurgent as Best Thriller/Suspense Novel.
ReplyDeleteThank you lots...
Raffle name: Nikki O but GFC as Abby
I nominate Warner!He best-est & swooniest villain ever! :D
ReplyDeleteThomas from Legend definitely!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to nominate Anderson, Warner's dad, from Unravel Me for best villain!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Lokesh from the Tiger's Series? I don't really know of a "best villian" haha. I try to not like the villians.
ReplyDeleteBest Thriller/Suspense: Ten by Gretchen McNiel and The Last Echo by Kimberly Derting.
ReplyDeleteBest Villian: Connor from The False Prince and Theogo from Daughter of Smoke and Bones series.
Voted! Love this BTW!
ReplyDeleteBest Villain: Warner's dad in Unravel Me (Anderson)
I like Erin's choices for Thriller/Suspence! Ten & The Last Echo are great choices! :-)
Awesome lists so many great choices! this is going to be interesting.
ReplyDeleteWarner's dad from Unravel Me for best villain :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so much fun, Jen! I'm glad to see Roar & Liv receive the love. I hope Ditched gets a lot of votes b/c it is soooo funny!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Sebastian/Jonathan is a great villain.
DeleteI nominate Warner
ReplyDeleteI voted ☺
ReplyDeleteI think my favourite villain is Reth from the paranormalcy series. He's just so yummy! I would totally have picked him over lend! I don't read much thriller suspence, maybe sister assassin but I think that doesn't meet the date published rules, maybe one breath away by heather ... i seriously can't spell her surname! Better stick to Reth! ☺
I would nominate Shadow and Bone as best suspense and the Darkling from it as best villian.
ReplyDeleteI would nominate Housemaster Vaughn from Fever by Lauren DeStefano or The Darkling from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the voting was fun! I really hope Duval is going to win.
ReplyDeleteFavorite villain: Voldemort, duh! :D
How about the Angel commander dude in Daughter of Smoke and Bone Series? Akiva's dad? And then I think Theogo could rate up there with the whole villain theme too.
ReplyDeleteBest villian: Mitch from Drowning Instinct. I'm still trying to figure out if he's really evil or just screwed up. Does he even count because he was the love interest as well?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely The Darkling from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo as Best Villain. For best thriller The Last Echo by Kimberly Derting:)
ReplyDeleteThank you:)
I have to choose Sebastian from City of Lost Souls!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Leanne
I would vote for Warner too!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Sever yet but i would vote for Linden's dad in Fever by Lauren DeStefano.
The Lunar Queen in Cinder and Scarlet
ReplyDeleteI vote Warner for Villain...gods, hate that guy -_- lol
ReplyDeleteI vote Anderson for best Villain!
ReplyDeleteVillain: Avari from the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had nominated From What I Remember for YA comedy. That book was hilarious and awesome!! I am no good at these things until I see what the nominations are though, then I can think of a bunch haha!!
ReplyDeleteOh but as for Villain: Warner(Shatter Me) or Sebastian/Jonathan(City of Lost Souls)
DeleteI voted for only one in each category and just saw I could have picked more. Oh well. For best villain I say Avari and Warner's dad Anderson.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely going with The Darkling. Love him.
ReplyDeleteI nominate Warner from Shatter Me.
ReplyDeleteI voted for my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThis is so fun!
ReplyDeleteMy nomination for a thriller would be The Diviners by Libby Bray. Its is soo creepy!
For a villian, Naughty John from the same book!
I hearted Warner in the first book. Can't wait for the second book. It's like... proof that I'm not crazy. I hope.
ReplyDeleteVaughn... I hope he gets his in Sever. I would vote for Warner, since I haven't read Unravel Me yet to see him in any other light. Ten is a great thriller nominee. :)
ReplyDeleteWarner from Shatter Me!
ReplyDeleteVillain: Naughty John from The Diviners (SO creepy!!)
ReplyDeleteSo fun! I voted. There were some great choices there! I like the Lunar Queen from Cinder for a villain. I can't remember her name. She definitely is one. I also like Lord Gisbourne from Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen. He is super creepy and manipulative.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun. Very interesting to see what was nominated.
ReplyDeleteMy post got deleted somehow. It's all this new set-up stuff. Anyway... Awesome awards! I voted and it was interesting to see what everyone else voted for. ;) I like the Lunar Queen (can't remember her name) from Cinder and Lord Gisbourne from Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen. Both of them are very deceptive, minipulating, and just evil.
ReplyDeleteVillain: Warner from Shatter Me or the Darkling from Shadow & Bone!
ReplyDeleteI kind of think Peter van Houten from TFIOS makes an interesting villain because of how much trouble he causes Hazel and Gus... I know that's weird.
ReplyDeleteThe best villain for me is Mother from Renegade. :)
ReplyDeleteI nominate The Lunar Queen from Cinder and Vaughn from Fever.
ReplyDeleteThis is great have just voted!
ReplyDeleteJust voted! I'd have to go with Warner for Best Villain. :)
ReplyDeleteDarkling for Best Villain! I love him!
ReplyDeleteI voted for all my favourites.
ReplyDeleteI nominate:
Best Villain: the Lunar Queen from Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Best Thriller/Suspense: Ten by Gretchen McNiel
-Nazish @ Nazish Reads
Villain: Warner, obviously :)
ReplyDeleteomg can the best villian be Warner? Because he is such a delicious villain. From UNRAVEL ME obviously. OR The lunar queen for the best villain. If not, I'd probably go with THE DARKLING. they were all pretty amazing.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't vote in the best YA comedy because I didn't read any of those books, I need to update by TBR. I can't even think of a villain that I like. Maybe Axel Mortmain from The Infernal Devices, I don't particularly like him but he is a good villain.
ReplyDeleteI voted!!
ReplyDeleteBest villain- Warner.
Best villain would be The Lunar Queen from the Lunar Chronicles
ReplyDeleteMy vote is going for Warner for best villain.
