Happy Friday!
Today I have another great giveaway -- and it is open internationally :)
Golden
by Jessi Kirby
To be published by Simon & Schuster
on May 14, 2013
My take: I've been a big fan of Jessi Kirby since Moonglass. In fact, I chose that book as one of my Best Kept YA Secrets of 2011. I hope that, since then, many more people have read both Moonglass and In Honor. In my review of In Honor, I wrote that "Jessi Kirby's books always seem sprinkled with just a touch of magic dust."
In Golden, the magic has to do with love and second chances. Main character Parker is a descendent of poet Robert Frost and also the daughter of a stalled poet. Driven and rule-following, Parker suddenly begins to question all her life choices when her high school teacher asks her to mail back a set of journals written by his senior students a decade before. Parker realizes one of the journals was written by Julianna, a girl killed with her boyfriend in a tragic accident, and steals the girl's journal to read. Soon, she's jeopardizing her future plans on a crazy wild-goose-chase meets quixotic love quest.
Golden takes some of the themes of Jessi Kirby's past books -- messages from beyond the grave, travel, and life choices -- and charmingly remixes them.
Fans of chick flicks and love-can-conquer-all stories will enjoy this story-within-a-story about one pair of ill-fated lovers from the past, and another pair who can't seem to get together in the present... until fate and a mysterious journal intervene.
The story is sweet and romantic and the cover is gorgeous. That design in the bottom right corner is all done in gold. For a chance to win a finished copy, just fill out the Rafflecopter below.
I'm interested in trying this as I thought Moonglass showed a lot of potential but I'm kind of mad at her for stealing that journal and jeopardizing her future. I hope Kirby can resolve those feelings when I do read this.
ReplyDeleteCool! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMoonglass! I forgot about that book!
ReplyDeleteSweet and romantic sounds right up my alley.
ReplyDeleteI just finished this last night. So. Good. It was actually my first Kirby book, though I have Moonglass and In Honor on my shelf. Must give them the time of day, now that I know how superbly she can weave a story. I really loved the story-within-a-story aspect, too.
ReplyDeleteI have been hearing so much awesome about this book. This is definitely a book that I would like.
ReplyDeleteOooh! This sounds good! :)

ReplyDeleteI have yet to read anything by Kirby but so many people seem to love her writing. I get the feeling I'm missing out. :) Great review, Jen.
ReplyDeleteSigh. Just loved that book. I need a companion book featuring J and J:)
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed to say that I have never read a Jessi Kirby book. My sister read In Honor and really enjoyed it but i haven't... I want to pick up moon glass because i heard the best things about it.

Ooooh! sweet and romantic! count me in :) glad you enjoyed this one :)
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to read this book - everyone's been raving about it and it sounds fantastic. Thanks for the giveaway! Also, I am planning on reading Moonglass for Bout of Books this week. I haven't heard much about it, since it's older, but since I can't read Kirby's newest book yet, I figured I'd read a book from her backlong. :) That's great to know that you really liked her debut novel.
ReplyDeleteI've never read any of Kirby's books, but I feel like I'm going to be addicted when I do!
