Last week of calm before the storm! This is such a slow week that I included The Bone Season, an adult crossover that was just selected as the book club pick on NBC's Today Show.  If I missed anything, let me know in comments!

VIII by H.M. Castor  (Simon & Schuster)
Soulbroken (Legacy of Tril #2) by Heather Brewer
This Side of Jealousy (Innocents #2) by Lili Peloquin

My take on this week: Teen Snark and I both read and enjoyed The Bone Season -- you can read my review here. Though I admire the cleverness of Miss Peregrine and the like, I'm thinking I will skip Asylum and try an adult mixed-media book that also releases today, Night Film.  I have If You Could Be Mine and am excited to try it. I was hopeful about VIII, until I read Bookworm 1858's review and learned that the book skips over some important life events. I'll wait for this author's book about Henry's daughters, half-sisters Mary and Elizabeth. Finally, what happened to the old cover of This Side of Jealousy?

  1. I did not realize Asylum came out today-I just got a copy through Amazon Vine but won't have a chance to read it until later this month. I did still think VIII was a good book; I was just disappointed with how some events were omitted (I mean, I think his illegitimate son is *pretty* important to a man who is obsessed with fathering sons.)

    1. Curious to see what you think of Asylum.
And yeah, I was pretty surprised to hear that VIII omitted mention of his illegitimate son and his liaison with Mary Boleyn..

  2. Asylum looks good! Creepy and I love mixed media books. I still need to read Miss Peregrine's. Nothing else I really need but of course a few other books look interesting!

    1. Ha -- there's never anything I need, but there's always something I want...

  3. I've heard nothing about Soulbroken coming out! Odd, because the first book had a pretty big push.

  4. At first I was like, I should have something to link up...but then I realized everything comes out NEXT week. Luckily, I've finished all those reviews up finally. Phew! Next month is going to be insane. I'm still slaving away through those books. :)

  5. Doon is HUGE on my list. I have the ARC and the book and need to read it this week sometime...I hope it lives up to my expectations.

  7. I've probably written this before, but I'm still amazed that you can keep up with all the new releases. There are some books here that I've just never seen before until now.

I'm skipping Asylum too - still haven't read Miss Peregrine's actually - but I didn't know Night Film was an adult mixed media book! I've heard nothing but good things about it, but I hadn't seen anything about that aspect of the book o.O. Hope you enjoy If You Could Be Mine!

    1. Don't know if it is officially mixed media, but the review I read said it incorporates photos, screen grabs, and maybe links to YouTube videos? So I guess it qualifies. I'm intrigued!

    2. I hope you review Night Film on the blog even though it's adult!

  8. I find the cover of Asylum too frightening to look at. Nothing really peaking my interest this week, which is a good thing since I have sooo many books already!

  9. Thanks for this! I haven't reviewed a ton of August releases apparently. I did have some adult though, which I didn't link of course. My first link up didn't have enough room for my full blog name so it just says Candace, but the rest are right after it, so you should know it's me anyway.

I am reading Asylum soon but I am not really excited for it.
