Waiting on Wednesday … The Summer of Letting Go and The Geography of You and Me

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

The Summer of Letting Go
by Gae Polisner
To be published in March 2014
by Algonquin Books

Summary: Still reeling from her little brother’s drowning death, a girl finds her herself holding back – from summer trips to the ocean, friendship, budding romance – till she meets another young boy who may be her brother’s reincarnation, which awakens her to new possibilities.
I'm a little wary of the reincarnation thing, but I really loved The Pull of Gravity by this author, so I'm going to trust her!

The Geography of You and Me
by Jennifer E. Smith
to be published in April 2014
by Poppy

Summary: Lucy and Owen meet somewhere between the tenth and eleventh floors of a New York City apartment building, on an elevator rendered useless by a citywide blackout. After they're rescued, they spend a single night together, wandering the darkened streets and marveling at the rare appearance of stars above Manhattan. But once the power is restored, so is reality. Lucy soon moves to Edinburgh with her parents, while Owen heads out west with his father. Lucy and Owen's relationship plays out across the globe as they stay in touch through postcards, occasional e-mails, and -- finally -- a reunion in the city where they first met.
I loved The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight and I love "it happened in one night" stories like Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and this even sounds a little like Griffin and Sabine -- remember that one back from the 1990s? All I know is that Jennifer E. Smith is genius at coming up with clever mash-up concepts!

What book are you impatiently waiting for? Tell me in comments or leave me a link!

  2. I love the sound of the Smith book but both of her recent releases have left me cold-something about her execution does not click with me no matter how cool I think the concept is. I may still give this one a shot depending on what reviews say.

  9. I haven't read books by either of these authors! Though I've heard that Jennifer E. Smith's books are awesome and swoony. Not sure if they'd be for me, but if I get my hands on either book, I'll read them! :)

  10. I hadn't seen Jennifer E. Smith's new one. You know I loved her other two, so this is definitely high on my list for next year! The Summer of Letting Go looks cute. I'm not sure about the premise either, but it sounds like it would be good. Great picks! Mine is for the final book in The Staff and the Sword series that I love (Christian Fantasy that isn't really religious or preachy).

  15. I am definitely going to be waiting on The Geography of You and Me. I didn't read Jennifer E. Smith's latest title, but like you, I loved Statistical Probability. I don't know what you mean by Griffin and Sabine :) but "it happened in one night" stories are awesome - did you ever watch Before Sunrise? And that also reminds me of Just One Day. Ms. Smith is definitely good with mash-up titles and cute, fun romances :).

  19. Always excited for another cute and romantic read from Jennifer E. Smith. The Geography of You and Me should be another fun one! Love the covers. The Summer of Letting Go sounds sad but has some cute potential. Curious about the reincarnation thing. Probably she just thinks that since she finds someone so similar.
