Extra! Extra! is my weekend post featuring brand new additions to my TBR pile as well as a summary of what's new on the blog.
This weekend I'm linking to Stacking the Shelves @ Tynga's Reviews or to Sunday Post hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
First off, I have some great giveaways going:
Best Books of 2013 Giveaway Hop!
and my annual Favorite Books of 2013 Freebie Friday. This will be in three parts, with multiple chances to enter, and I've created a new category. This week is not new -- My Favorite YA Contemporary and Historical books of 2013.
New Books:I don't think I got any new review books, but I did buy The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt:
I've been wanting to read it and I just went to see the painting the title refers to, which is one of a collection of paintings on loan to the Frick from the Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis in The Hague, the Netherlands -- Girl With a Pearl Earring is also there.
But … The Goldfinch is 700+ pages long and I still have 8 books left to read to make my Goodreads challenge. We'll see how busy the next couple of weeks turn out to be...
Good luck with your challenge-I hardly read anything this week and am way behind (need to read 17 books in 16 days) :( However today is my birthday (!) and I'm hoping to make up some ground and schedule some posts for this upcoming week. Love the giveaways as they are a great way to wrap up 2013!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! And happy birthday :)
DeleteI hadn't heard of The Goldfinch before but it sounds good! I do try and shy away from long books then when I'm crunched for time. I've got 5 books to go on my Goodreads Challenge so I'm feeling you on that last little time crunch.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read anything by her since The Secret History, but I've heard good things about this book!
DeleteGood luck with your challenge! I passed mine a while ago and I have no idea what I should ai for in 2014. Hope you have a good weekend ☺
ReplyDeleteUh, since you read 365+ books in 2013 …. maybe 500???
DeleteGood luck with Goldfinch! Think I'll leave this till 2014! I can't remember if it was this one or The Luminaries but I read somewhere that an Australian DJ was trying to make a point about the length of some of these books and he actually cut it in half!! Can you imagine?? Made me feel all icky reading that!
ReplyDeleteYou mean he physically cut the book in half?? Bookicide!!!
DeleteI put The Goldfinch on my reading list for next year - I don't think I could get through it over the holidays either.

It's very long -- can't decide whether to give it a shot. I'll see how busy I am next week :)
DeleteAwesome week. Goldfinch looks interesting. Not sure if it's the right fit for me, but I hope you enjoy your new books.

Hope you'll make it Jen. There's still some time left.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading.
Yep -- 17 days!!
DeleteI hope you enjoy The Goldfinch. That's such an unusual cover - I love the 3D effect! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
DeleteEnjoy goldfinch. I love Girl with a pearl earring (painting and the book lol). Happy Reading!

I have never read that book -- but guess I should!
DeleteThat cover is really cool!! I have never heard of this book before though. I guess I will have to wait for your review to see if I think it's something I would like. And by the way, no need to apologize for not commenting. I have been really awful at it. I apologize to you! I still love your blog, I just haven't had as much time to stalk it.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of the book before! But, happy reading :D
ReplyDelete700 pages at the end of a year is a too big adventure even for me. Nevertheless, I've heard great things about Tartt's Secret History so this one must be outstanding as well.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading, Jen!
I haven't heard of this one but looks good, hope you enjoy
ReplyDelete700+ pages, huh? Yeah, I would start that sucker during the new year. :D Hope you enjoy it, though.
ReplyDelete8 more books! If anyone can do it, it's you! Good luck! And I hope you love The Goldfinch. :)
ReplyDeleteMy review books are definitely slowing down towards the end of the year and I'm thankful for it, got heaps to keep me occupied over the break. I've seen this around but haven't heard much about it, hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteJeann @ Happy Indulgence
Well 'm still reviewing just no as much. Being that we are getting closer to the end of the year...
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear what you think of Into the Still Blue too! I am waiting to get Under the Never Sky from the library so I can read through them all again. :)
