Extra! Extra! is my weekend post featuring brand new additions to my TBR pile as well as a summary of what's new on the blog.
This weekend I'm linking to Stacking the Shelves @ Tynga's Reviews or to Sunday Post hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
GIVEAWAYS:
For Freebie Friday, I'm giving away a choice of three January ARCs. Open to US residents! If you're international, you can enter Hot Off the Presses.
NEW BOOKS:
Thanks to Macmillan for approving me for these, BOTH of which were featured on my Waiting On Wednesdays. So you know I'm excited!
Second Star by Alyssa B. Sheinmel
I've read and enjoyed all of Alyssa's prior books and this is a retelling of Peter Pan. I've been meaning to read Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson, also a Peter retelling, so maybe I'll read them back to back...
My Last Kiss by Bethany Neal
So I'm not super-crazy about afterlife books or amnesia books, but this is about a girl trying to prove she didn't commit suicide, and that intrigues me!
WHAT'S NEW WITH ME:
I'm freezing. Like much of the country, my area has been experiencing frigid temperatures. I'd stay inside and read, but I have a dog who needs to go out. So I bundle up and go outside! Today I looked online for the perfect glittens -- those glove-mitten combos, where they are fingerless gloves with a mitten cover on top. I have a pair, but they're really ugly.
ON MY TBR THIS WEEK:
Perfect Lies by Kiersten White. I started this and I'm confused, but I will press on!
Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott. I'm excited to try this.
What's new with you? Leave me a comment!
I also got Second Star and I'm SO excited to read it! I wasn't that interested in My Last Kiss because I wasn't sure who the audience was, but not that I've seen the GORGEOUS cover, I might reconsider. I hope you love both of these, especially since you've been waiting so anxiously for them.

Great Imaginations
I hope I love them both!
DeleteNice haul. I'm freezing as well. I need some heat to come to my part of the country. Nice haul of books.
ReplyDeleteGrace
The cold never ends! I want to be on a beach :)
DeleteIt still hasn't snowed here in Germany (at least where I live) but I heard that maybe it will soon.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading to you Jen!
Wish I could send you some of our snow!!
DeleteSorry for the cold-I've been trying to send some warmth from California but it doesn't seem to be working :) How is Perfect Lies going? The first few chapters were confusing but before the halfway mark, I was figuring things out. I hope to do some reading today but um it's so nice that I might be running around outside instead.
ReplyDeleteIt is warner today (Monday) so thanks for sending the heat :)
DeleteYou guys are unseasonably colder and we're unseasonably warm, like low to mid 70's, which is just gorgeous weather. We've been outside playing a lot. Normally it's at least somewhat cold and rainy this time of year, but no, we've got clear skies and warm temps. I definitely can't complain, at least as long as it's not 100 in March. It worries me when it's so war so early, but I'll take that over your cold.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for Perfect Lies. I'm curious as to why you're confused. I'll be reading that at least by the end of February depending on if I get all my January reads done early or not. :)
I got My Last Kiss too, which sounds really good - obviously why I requested it. I haven't been approved for Second Star yet. It sounds like an interesting take on Peter Pan.
That weather sounds SO nice!
DeleteCan't wait to compare notes on Perfect Lies!
This is such a great idea! I should combine these two memes together too. Usually I post Stacking the Shelves on Sat and The Sunday Post on Sun, but because they both have pretty much the same information It'd be easier and smarter to just put them together and post them on one day, which will be Sunday to wrap up my week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and for the great indea
eeehh! I couldn't do it! I ended up doing my STS lol
Deletecheck it out :) http://bookhangoversbb.blogspot.com/
Ha ha -- it has freed up some time for me, to combine them :)
DeleteI also got Second Star this week =D I am really excited to read this modern Peter Pan re-telling. I read Tiger Lily and really loved it. It left me with a lot of feels!
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
I'm excited for both of them!
DeleteSecond Star and My Last Kiss are both popular lately. I'm very iffy on retellings though and My Last Kiss sounds so sad :-( I'll have to check out reviews before I decide if I am doing to read them or not.
ReplyDeleteI love retellings! And I agree, a dead main character does have limitations in the HEA department, but I'm excited to try this!!
DeleteGreat haul Jen, My Last Kiss sounds so good and the same goes for Second Star! I hope you are enjoying them! And I need to branch into some great fairy retellings this year too :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading
Patrick @ The Bookshelves
Retellings are still going strong!
DeleteI liked Fire and Blood a lot! I'm going to be starting Perfect Lies soon and I'm nervous now since you say its confusing lol Enjoy the goodies! :)

Well, if you weren't confused the first time around, you'll probably be fine!
DeleteI loved Mind Games and hope to start Perfect Lies this week too! Second Star sounds really good. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to compare notes!
DeleteReading Fire and Blood soon too, lucky on getting My Last Kiss. Hope you enjoy that one!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Look forward to seeing what you think about Fire and Flood!
DeleteBundle up and be safe!
ReplyDeleteHopefully you'll end up loving Perfect Lies like I did, it was a bit confusing to get into the narrative again!
I'm a wee bit envious of you reading Fire & Flood! I still have to hear from it on NetGalley, but since it's taking them so long... I don't think I'm getting approved.
Happy reading!
Sometimes my approvals take forever too. A couple times I got approved long after the book came out. Fingers crossed for you!
DeleteSecond Star and My Last Kiss both sound amazing! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on them! Stay warm! Amazingly, in Canada right now, we're actually kind of weirdly warm haha. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Sunday Post & STS (:
Enjoy your nice weather!
DeleteI got MY LAST KISS too and I'm so excited to read it. One of the first signing I ever attended was in Ann Arbor, MI for Lauren Oliver's first book. I went with a few other blogger friends (Kristi from The Story Siren, Tirzah from The Compulsive Reader, etc) and we ended up chatting with a girl in the audience. A girl who was writing a book. And that girl is Bethany! She got published and even though we only met in person that one time, I feel so incredibly proud that she did it!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, sorry for the long story. haha
Happy reading. Check out my StS here: The Hiding Spot
That is SUCH a great story. Don't be sorry -- thanks for sharing it. I can't wait to read it :)
DeleteI thought I'd commented on this but don't see it...I am really excited to see how you like Fire & Flood! I'm intrigued with My Last Kiss...looks good and the cover reminds me of something but I can't think of it. Hm. I hope you warm up :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry! Lately that has been happening to me when I comment, Both on Wordpress and Blogger. it's very aggravating!!
DeleteWoah My Last Kiss sounds like it'd be really interesting! Keen to hear what you think of Fire & Flood as well :) Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
DeleteI can't recall ever reading a Peter Pan retelling, but I've meant to read Tiger Lily too. Oh, I hope you end up liking Perfect Lies, I loved it.
ReplyDeleteMe either! That and Tiger Lily are the two I've heard of.
DeleteI need to get to my copy of Fire & Flood. For the most part, I've seen really positive reviews, and I liked her Dante Walker books. I am so unbelievably excited to read Second Star. I'm just waiting on a friend to be ready for our buddy read. :) I kind of love Peter Pan, and with the recent turn that story line took on OUaT, I'm even more excited for a different kind of retelling. Hope you got some cute new glittens! :D
ReplyDeleteI have never read those. I finished yesterday. It wasn't entirely my kind of book (heavily plot-driven) but she's a very funny writer!
DeleteMy Last Kiss sounds really interesting and I like the cover. I can't wait to read your review.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteMy whole area is under a winter storm warning starting tomorrow--MY AREA--in the Florida Panhandle. It's bizarre. And my fave hand warmers are a pair of chenille lined, red knit mittens--I'm a big believer in mittens over gloves when it comes to warmth:)
ReplyDeleteWe are getting a new puppy in 2 weeks! So I'm hoping that the cold weather is moving out because I know exactly who will be getting up during the night to let a puppy out to do his business--and it's not any of the male members of my house.
I got Second Star on NG so I am am SUPER stoked! Your WoW post last year is what first put it on my radar:)
That's CRAZY! Bundle up!! I'm going to email you with puppy questions.
DeleteYou don't know how much I would love to see snow. We got none.
ReplyDeleteI will send you some!!
DeleteI love, love, LOVE Tiger Lily, so I feel as if Second Star might not work out so well for me. Plus, there's such a blatant love triangle alluded to in the summary that I'm quiteeee scared, but I'll be looking out for your thoughts on it since I'm curious and would love to read another Peter Pan re-telling. (Especially one where Hook is so prominently featured!)
