Roomies
by Tara Altebrando and Sara Zarr
Here's my (expanded) roommate story, but be sure to check out the hilarious stories in comments on my original December 6 post. There's the dog in the pool story, the bleach addict, the oil hoarder, the glue gun artist...
The summer after I graduated from college, my best friend and I decided we'd move to the nearest city and room together. We'd take on the world -- glamorous jobs in air conditioned offices during the day, hitting the town at night. We went to an temp agency and, after filling out forms and taking a typing test, were told that we were completely unemployable. They offered my friend a job making change at a laundromat and had nothing for me. We ended up living not in the high rise apartment of our dreams, but in a ramshackle house with three guys who didn't use soap to wash dishes and left the bathroom in such a state that my friend -- a bit of a germaphobe -- could barely bring herself to use either the bathroom or the kitchen. After a few weeks, she went back home to her parents. That wasn't an option for me, so I stuck it out with the guys -- who were actually grad students in physics, so I was living my own version of The Big Bang Theory, though not nearly as funny and interesting as on TV -- and ended up getting the craziest job ever. But that's a whole other story....
Roomies is also a book about new beginnings, about the scariness and excitement of leaving home, about the scariness and excitement of being randomly paired with a college roommate. If you missed my review, you can read it here.
Little, Brown has generously offered me a copy of Roomies to give away. They can mail to US street addresses only. To enter, please use the Rafflecopter below.
And feel free to leave your roomie story in comments -- funny, horrifying, whatever -- but it's not required!

All these stories are so funny. I have never had a roommate (other than my husband of course) That's weird right?? lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway and very cool story! I never roomed with anyone. That must have been some experiment.
ReplyDeleteLove TBBT reference-I've only had the one roommate in college and we didn't really have any crazy stories (thank God!) It's amusing to read these stories in hindsight though I can see how awful they would have been to live through.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds like fun! I have had a few different roommates over the years. All have been friends and I have been lucky to have good experiences. Of course, we had lot of fun! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
