Today I'm joining Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Breaking the Spine.
Here's my pick:
Winterkill
by Kate Boorman
To be published on September 9, 2014
by Abrams/Amulet
Emmeline knows the woods outside her settlement are forbidden. The mysterious enemy that wiped out half her people lurks there, keeping them isolated in an unfamiliar land with merciless winters. Living with the shame of her grandmother's insubordination, Emmeline has learned to keep her head down and her quick tongue silent. When the settlement leader asks for her hand in marriage, it's a rare opportunity to wash the family stain clean--even if she has eyes for another. But before she is forced into an impossible decision, her dreams urge her out to the woods, where she finds a path she can't help but follow. The trail leads to a secret that someone in the settlement will kill to protect. Her grandmother went down that path and paid the price. If Emmeline isn't careful, she will be next.
I'm not really sure what genre Winterkill is, or when or where it takes place. But it sounds like a Forest of Hands and Teeth, which I loved -- even if there were zombies. And what is down the path??Abrams/Amulet puts out some really interesting books, and I'm excited to try this one!
Thanks for stopping by -- if you have a WoW, please leave me a link!
This one sounds super interesting too! Reminds me a bit of The Village (the Shyamalan movie)!
ReplyDeleteGreat pick!
Oooh, that's a good point. It's also possible that FoHaT was inspired by that movie. I love those claustrophobic/scary village stories...
DeleteI've seen this one on a couple of other posts recently but I haven't really paid much attention. Now that I've read the synopsis, it sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteI hope it is!
DeleteI'm really hoping this one is really twisty and crazy. But I'm going to wait until you read it before I decide.
ReplyDeleteHa - no problem....
DeleteThis is one I'm looking forward to as well. It reminds me of Little Red Riding Hood and I'm really curious what spin they're going to put on what is in the woods. I'm hoping its not zombies since they're my least favorite. :) Great pick! Here's my WOW!
ReplyDeleteI am also really hoping that there are no zombies involved...
DeleteLove the sounds of this one too. Great pick.
ReplyDeleteJenea @ Books Live Forever's WoW
So excited for this one as well, it looks like a thriller as well as slightly creepy :) Great Pick!
ReplyDeleteAlso followed you on Bloglovin :)
Nemo @ Blame it on the book
Thanks for the follow! Followed you back :)
DeleteThis really screams Forest of Hands and Teeth. I'm quite interested though. Great choice.

I hate zombie stories but that book was really good.
DeleteI love The Forest of Hands and Teeth! I agree that Abrams/Amulet produce some excellent quality reads and I'm excited to read Winterkill as well!
ReplyDeleteI only read the first book, but I really liked it.
DeleteThe first book was definitely the best. <3
DeleteI've never read Forest of Hands and Teeth, but looking up both books just now - wow! These sound really interesting. I agree with commenter Pili that it sounds just like the movie the Village. Super spooky!
ReplyDeleteIt's good -- and now I can't remember if I've seen the Village...
DeleteWow - it really does sound like FotHaT! I hope that's in a good way :-) That cover is creepy and awesome!
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
Oh i hadn't heard of this one before but i'm pretty intrigued based on the synopsis!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see this book I think I want to read it, but I just don't know! It does sound really good, so I may have to give it a chance.
ReplyDeleteMy WoW
Very interesting indeed!
ReplyDeleteI actually say this on NG and wanted to request it but restrained myself because I have way too many books to read .-.
ReplyDeleteI am not big on zombies but that cover calls to me and that blurb... well it has my attention.
Fantastic pick, Jen! :)
Rashika @ The Social Potato
What?? I didn't see it on NG but just went and requested, so thanks :)
DeleteOooh adding this one!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds amazing! And the cover is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI loved The forest of hands and teeth, too, and yeah, this sounds like that!
Lis @ The reader lines
Yeah, great pick. It sounds mysterious and you don't really know what will happen in the book. Definitely a book I will check out. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say, I totally love the cover! Great pick, thanks for sharing (:
ReplyDeleteSounds like it could be a very cliche and predictable dystopian novel, or a very amazing one! And I LOVE the name Emmeline, so I'll definitely have to at least look into this more. Thanks so much! :)
ReplyDelete~Lynette @ Escaping Reality - One Book at a Time
I requested this one, too. I liked the similarities to The Forest of Hands and Teeth, too. I hope this is awesome.
