Today I'm joining Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Breaking the Spine.

Here's my pick:

Winterkill
by Kate Boorman
To be published on September 9, 2014
by Abrams/Amulet

Emmeline knows the woods outside her settlement are forbidden. The mysterious enemy that wiped out half her people lurks there, keeping them isolated in an unfamiliar land with merciless winters. Living with the shame of her grandmother's insubordination, Emmeline has learned to keep her head down and her quick tongue silent. When the settlement leader asks for her hand in marriage, it's a rare opportunity to wash the family stain clean--even if she has eyes for another. But before she is forced into an impossible decision, her dreams urge her out to the woods, where she finds a path she can't help but follow. The trail leads to a secret that someone in the settlement will kill to protect. Her grandmother went down that path and paid the price. If Emmeline isn't careful, she will be next.

I'm not really sure what genre Winterkill is, or when or where it takes place. But it sounds like a Forest of Hands and Teeth, which I loved -- even if there were zombies. And what is down the path??Abrams/Amulet puts out some really interesting books, and I'm excited to try this one!

Thanks for stopping by -- if you have a WoW, please leave me a link!

  1. This one sounds super interesting too! Reminds me a bit of The Village (the Shyamalan movie)!

    1. Oooh, that's a good point. It's also possible that FoHaT was inspired by that movie. I love those claustrophobic/scary village stories...

  2. I've seen this one on a couple of other posts recently but I haven't really paid much attention. Now that I've read the synopsis, it sounds really good!

  3. I'm really hoping this one is really twisty and crazy. But I'm going to wait until you read it before I decide.

  4. This is one I'm looking forward to as well. It reminds me of Little Red Riding Hood and I'm really curious what spin they're going to put on what is in the woods. I'm hoping its not zombies since they're my least favorite. :) Great pick! Here's my WOW!

  8. I've never read Forest of Hands and Teeth, but looking up both books just now - wow! These sound really interesting. I agree with commenter Pili that it sounds just like the movie the Village. Super spooky!

  12. I actually say this on NG and wanted to request it but restrained myself because I have way too many books to read .-.

I am not big on zombies but that cover calls to me and that blurb... well it has my attention.

    Fantastic pick, Jen! :)

  16. Sounds like it could be a very cliche and predictable dystopian novel, or a very amazing one! And I LOVE the name Emmeline, so I'll definitely have to at least look into this more. Thanks so much! :)
