OTHER BLOG NEWS:
I signed up for the Book Blogger Organization Challenge, hosted by the Book Addict's Guide.
This is a 6-month challenge in which you do various things to get your blog and blogging life all organized -- around the New Year, who can resist that? So once a month, I'll be posting my plans and progress.
January is devoted to Challenges and Resolutions. I already posted my 2015 blogging resolutions (spend time wisely on social media, do more discussion posts, and meet and connect with more bloggers.)
As for challenges, I've learned that I don't really need the kind in which you try to rack up or count up books you've read. I did challenges like this my first year or two of blogging, and found that a) I already read plenty of books and b) I read plenty of debut books, contemporary books, standalone books, and diverse books. Reading books is not really my problem! (I may need other kinds of motivation, and stay tuned for more on that...)
The only reading challenge I still participate in is the Goodreads challenge, and that's more of a way to keep track of all the books I read. (I had to lower my goal, but still managed to make it to 175. Not as good as last year, but not bad!)
How is your 2015 going so far? Have you read any great new books, made goals or joined challenges? Tell me about it in comments!
Kyaaaa, what wonderful gifts you had, and just in time for the holidays, too. I'd kill (okay, not really, but mayhaps close) for Maas' newest book to be released soon. I hope you enjoy it and I anticipate your thoughts/review of this one!!!
ReplyDeleteHah, the fact that you got to read over 150 books in 2014 makes me green with envy. I wish I was able to read as many! I only got to read less than 140 last year and it kind hurts my ego (I kid, I kid). I'm hopefuly to pass 150 this year... I'm quite positive because I got my reading mojo back!
Faye at The Social Potato
I can't wait to try the new Maas!!!
DeleteGlad you got your mojo back for 2015. I love you and the Social Potatoes :)
I so love the cover for A Court of Thorns and Roses. I hope you love all your new books this week. I only read like 110 books last year. My problem is finding time to read. I hope you love all your new gifts.
ReplyDeleteGrace @ Books of Love
Gorgeous cover!!
DeleteYes, I also struggled to find reading time this year. But 110 books is a lot -- that's one every three days!
Ooo, A Court of Thorns and Roses! Have fun reading that one! I did a few challenges back in 2013 but only did the Goodreads Challenge last year. I managed to read 238 which is the most I've ever read in a year! I set my goal a lot lower this year though because school is taking up so much of my time! And that may be partly my fault because not going to lie, I'm pretty bad at time management. Haha, Good luck this year and happy reading! :)
ReplyDeleteAriel @ Bookish Confessions
It's so funny how we're all embarrassed about our 100+ books when I think the average person probably reads .. okay, I just googled it:
Delete28 percent of Americans have not read a book in the past year
25 percent read 1-5 books
15 percent read 6-10
20 percent read 11-50
8 percent read over 50
There's not even a category for over 100...
Happy New Year Jen! Great books! I know what you mean about the reading challenges. goodreads is the only challenge I'll be doing this year too. Which is more like an organizer than challenge but yeah :) I look forward to seeing this blogging challenge in action. I wish you a splendid year ^_^
ReplyDeleteDee @ Dee's Reads
I need the Goodreads challenge to keep track. And it does motivate me. And depress me, when it tells me I'm way behind...
DeleteCongratulations on the new books, Jen. I hope you'll enjoy them. Also, good luck on your challenge!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty proud of myself for reading 2 books already this year though it wasn't love for either. I do like the goodreads challenge-I'm a big fan of tracking books read that way in addition to my personal google spreadsheet where I keep track as well.
ReplyDeleteI to participate in the goodreads challenge but 175 books is a faraway dream for me! That's more than 3 books a week, you have no idea how impressed I am with that...
ReplyDeleteOoh you got some great books this week! I hope you enjoy A Court of Thorns and Roses and Blythewood! I've been wanting to read both for a while now.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week, Jen <33
Oh dear ACOTAR!! I'm entering every giveaway there is for an ARC of that one because I have the book preordered and I got the sampler and I NEED THE DAMNED BOOK NOOOOOW!!
ReplyDeleteI still join challenges but I'm sneaky and do join those that I know I'm highly likely to do well at, or I feel it'll be fun adding a bit of extra variety to my reading.
I always do the GR challenge too for keeping track of what I read too!
Hope 2015 will be a fantastic year for you Jen!
Those look like fun reads. I understand what you mean about most challenges. I am always thinking: what's the challenge there? That's why I am doing a scavenger hunt challenge. The organizing one sounds good too - I worry it would stress me out about being organized even more than I am. Here is my post for the Sunday Post: http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/2015/01/sunpo-1-4-15.html
ReplyDeleteA Court of Thrones and Roses is showing up all over. I'll be waiting to buy a copy the day it is released. I don't do challenges anymore either. Keeping up with my Review Stack is challenge enough. I do the GoodReads Challenge but mainly to list the books I read. I'll have to watch for the organizational tips for that challenge. I think I'm pretty organized already but more organization can't hurt. Come see what I got here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThe new challenge sounds nice! I hope you enjoy doing it as well :3 I'm looking forward to seeing these resolution posts come in this month :D I have completed one of mine by prescheduling all my posts for January to February.

Good luck with your challenge and ooh Court of Thorns and Roses so jelly! I love the series and hope it is amazing. Happy New Year Jen..hope 2015 is all that and more!
ReplyDeleteSome lovely books! My TBR is already groaning. LOL I've pretty much decided on my challenges for this year and should be fun. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Sunday Post - http://fuonlyknew.com/2015/01/04/whats-new-on-my-bookshelf-91-and-the-sunday-post/
Happy 2015 Jen! ACOTAR is such a pretty book! I'm so excited for taht one but I'm gonna hold off on my couple for a little while. Enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteOMG, Court of Thorns and Roses ARC! So awesome! Jealous!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my STS
Fabulous ARCs! Enjoy! I love the idea of an organizational challenge. I could definitely use something like hat especially in the spending my time wisely department. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your new additions!!! I'm excited to see what you think, especially since you were thinking of pulling out of Maas other series. Good luck on getting more organized. I feel like you're already so organized. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have some cool new books! Is the one by Maas a part of the Throne of Glass series? I love her writing so far, so I'm sure it will be a good one.
