Welcome to another installment of Trending Thursday! Today I'm looking at two cover trends I've been noticing recently. It seems to me that each is inspired by art, and I'm a fan of both!
First, what I'm calling the Watercolor Covers. These covers are characterized by white/light space that is contrasted with a pop of bright color, much like a watercolor painting:

Next, we have the Chalkboard Font inspired covers You know, those amazing chalkboard artists who do stuff like this:

The watercolor trend isn't working for me. The white background usually tips me off, even if I do like that little splash of color.
ReplyDeleteThe chalkboard style, though, is definitely my cup of tea! I just love seeing all sorts of different fonts come together in a single, cohesive cover.
I like both styles quite a bit - I think I would tend to water colors a little more
ReplyDeleteI like the watercolor style. It's delicate, but it makes an impression. Not so crazy for the chalkboard, for some reason... Too dry, somehow. Great post, Jen - excellent eye :)
ReplyDeleteI love them all, but the chalkboard one is probably my fav!
ReplyDeleteI like both trends but I think the watercolour one is my favourite. I really like the bright colours.
ReplyDeleteI love the water colour covers because they never fail to pop out. They are definitely my favourite :)

I prefer the watercolor covers. They're usually very pretty and imaginative.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the watercolor trend. Oh so pretty! Original artwork is a huge selling point for me personally. I can't help but judge a book by its cover.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the watercolours! I really love anything drawn mostly. ^-^ I think it's a refreshing (and beautiful) change from having half faces or headless petty dresses on covers. XD hehe. And the chalkboard is also soooo pretty. Gah, these designers just are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI adore watercolour covers. A Thousand Pieces of You keeps sucking me back in even though I'm unsure if I want to read it. I just want that cover so bad. I also really want that Mojito art now!
ReplyDeleteGreat eye for the trends, I hadn't noticed as much the watercolors
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I really love both of these cover trends and I hope they continue. A Thousand Pieces of You is even more gorgeous in person!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with anything watercolor so I'm a fan of all these watercolor covers.
ReplyDeleteBoth styles are very beautiful, I especially love the watercolor effect. A thousand Pieces of You was my favorite cover last year - wonderful post overall. Benish| Feminist Reflections
ReplyDeleteI actually like both styles a LOT. I think they have something to offer to everyone aethestically - the gorgeousness in one, and the quirkiness in the other. Did you have to scout GR for these covers, Jen? Haha!

I actually really love the watercolor covers.
ReplyDeleteI like the watercolor covers, especially ATPoY! Ink by Amanda Sun also has a watercolor effect, its really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI am loooving both of these trends, they are all individual pieces of art that could be framed. Definitely helps them stick out of the shelf!
ReplyDeleteLike others here have said, I'm loving both effects! Utterly gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love BOTH the watercolor and chalkboard trends! In the case of EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING, it really captures the whimsical, adorable nature of the book. Love these trend pieces you do, Jen, you're so good at spotting them and doing round-ups for us.
