Trending Thursday: Watercolors and Chalkboard Style

Welcome to another installment of Trending Thursday!  Today I'm looking at two cover trends I've been noticing recently. It seems to me that each is inspired by art, and I'm a fan of both!

First, what I'm calling the Watercolor Covers. These covers are characterized by white/light space that is contrasted with a pop of bright color, much like a watercolor painting:

Next, we have the Chalkboard Font inspired covers You know, those amazing chalkboard artists who do stuff like this:

  1. The watercolor trend isn't working for me. The white background usually tips me off, even if I do like that little splash of color.

The chalkboard style, though, is definitely my cup of tea! I just love seeing all sorts of different fonts come together in a single, cohesive cover.

  3. I like the watercolor style. It's delicate, but it makes an impression. Not so crazy for the chalkboard, for some reason... Too dry, somehow. Great post, Jen - excellent eye :)

  8. I LOVE the watercolor trend. Oh so pretty! Original artwork is a huge selling point for me personally. I can't help but judge a book by its cover.

  9. I LOVE the watercolours! I really love anything drawn mostly. ^-^ I think it's a refreshing (and beautiful) change from having half faces or headless petty dresses on covers. XD hehe. And the chalkboard is also soooo pretty. Gah, these designers just are fabulous!

  15. I actually like both styles a LOT. I think they have something to offer to everyone aethestically - the gorgeousness in one, and the quirkiness in the other. Did you have to scout GR for these covers, Jen? Haha!
