Extra! Extra! The BEA Edition

Extra! Extra! is my weekend post featuring brand new additions to my TBR pile as well as a summary of what's new on the blog.

This weekend I'm linking to Stacking the Shelves @ Tynga's Reviews and/or to Sunday Post hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

For the fourth year in a row, I was lucky enough to attend BEA (Book Expo America.) It's a huge, multi-day event attended by publishers, authors, booksellers, librarians, teachers, press, and bloggers.
Publishers set up booths to show off all the great new books they'll have coming out in the next year. It's a HUGE event that includes book signings and book giveaways.

This year, BEA coincided with a bunch of family events I needed to attend, and as a result, I was only there for a day and a half rather than three full days. (This turned out to be a very good thing for my feet!) Yes, I did miss out on a book or two (I Crawl Through It....) but I'm okay with that.

Here's my four year history of number of books obtained at BEA:

This year I'm at an all time low! And yet, I still think I got just about every book I wanted. There seemed to be fewer books featured at this year's event, but still a lot of amazing titles. And best of all, the 24 books I got fit nicely into my book cupboard. Here's a peek:

The full list is on Goodreads here.  And, as all good things often come to an end, this may be my last BEA. Because:

That's a way for me to travel. Then again, the dates are earlier -- hard to read, but they are mid-May instead of late May, and that may conflict less with the end of the school year stuff that often gets in the way of BEA for me.

In any case, I had a great time, met old friends and made new ones, and found out about a lot of amazing new books -- which I will be telling you about in the months to come!

  1. So many amazing books you got at BEA! I spot Lair of Dreams and Six of Crows. You did pretty well for a day and a half still!

    1. I did! LoD was a lucky accident, while SoC involved standing in multiple lines. That's the way BEA goes!

    1. Lair of Dreams is SO long. I need to set aside some time for that one.

  3. I cleaned out my shelves before going to BEA and I'm happy that I kept myself under control and actually managed to fit everything I got neatly on the bookshelves - instead of in boxes all over the floor like most years.

P.S. I have I Crawl Through It if you would like to borrow.

  4. If you got the books you wanted then that's awesome. It looked like you had some really good ones in there. I would love to go to Chicago next year but I will have to wait until it comes back to NYC.

  5. You got some amazing books. Sometimes going for a Day and 1/2 is better. I might not go to Chicago. I might be going to ALA Annual instead. Congrats on getting Six of Crows.

  6. Ah, what a fabulous experience, and what a gorgeous haul of books. I will live vicariously through you. If I ever make it to the states, BEA and Harry Potter theme park are my two must-see's!

  7. I've always wanted to go to BEA but I'm on the opposite coast. I thought it was always in NY though. Does it tend to move around every so many years?

  11. Wow looks like you've got some amazing books! You're so lucky you got the chance to attend BEA! I hope I will soon too!

  12. All those books sounds amazing! I got a few of them at BEA as well. I've already read and loved Illuminae, so I hope you like it as well. Honestly, I’m surprised I didn’t end up with more books than I did (I brought home 40ish) since it was my first BEA, but I showed surprising self-restraint haha.

  13. Oh wow. BEA is in Chicago next year? I think I can swing that.

Looking forward to your reviews on these books!

  14. Excellent haul! I am actually really happy BEA is moving to Chicago! It's closer to my hometown where I grew up and I could afford a trip back there :) So I think I could make it for once! haha.
Glad you went and had a fabulous time <3

  16. I bet you missed me the whole time. :) I'm not sure about next year either, but let me know. Maybe we can rent an apartment and jump off of trains.
