Recently I got tagged for The Bookshelf Tag by Symphony of Words.
I'm not always a fan of tags, but this is a fun one ... except that my bookshelves were kind of a mess. You know, when you start stacking books in front of books and on top of other books and then you wonder where your new earbuds still in the package have disappeared to, and there they are on the bookshelf for no good reason at all.
So this tag gave me the motivation to tidy up a bit....
I'll answer some of the tag questions, because there are a LOT.
How do you organize your books?
Alphabetically by author's last name. Above is A through part of F and below is the rest of F through some of M.
I spent years working and volunteering in libraries and I guess that alphabetizing thing kind of stuck. I love the IDEA of organizing by color, but I'm not sure I could find anything.
What is the biggest/thickest book on your shelf?
This bad boy -- 560-something pages. Whew!
What is the thinnest book on your shelves?
Love this one! Timeless and only 180 pages!
Book you got as a gift/book you got from a friend/book that is signed/ book you'd never lend out?
This is a book written by my friend, fantasy author Eliza Tilton. Her cover was redesigned, so this is a collector's item. And signed. It falls into FOUR categories and I think I should get a prize for that.
Complete series?
You can see from the first picture in this post that I have the entire Grisha Trilogy and the entire White Cat series by Holly Black. But when I look at my shelves I see ... incomplete series. First off, I tend to prefer standalones. And sometimes I only liked the first book in the series. Or sometimes I have the last book(s) in e-book form. Or some of my favorite series (*cough Raven Boys cough*) aren't finished yet.
I was afraid to see how the Bloodlines series ended, so I got the last book from the library. I DID love how it ended, and now I remember I need to buy the Ruby Circle to complete my set!
There you have it. Thanks for coming along on my tour.
If you'd like to do this tag, consider yourself tagged. Or let me know and I can add your name to the bottom of this post.
If you want the complete list of questions, check out Symphony of Words post or the ones on Paper Fury.
I have a weird order for my books that makes sense to no one except me lol
ReplyDeleteMy to be read books are all in order my date though - which makes sense with the exception that I then divide those into from the publisher and BEA books.
Everything else is in order by how much I love it. lol

Interesting :) I learned a little more about you! So jealous of your capacity to organize your shelves so prettily. Mine? Unmittigated disaster! :D
ReplyDeleteI SEE SO MANY HARDCOPIES Jen, I be jealous. I'm so glad you decided to do the tag, and wow, combining ALL FOUR OF THOSE QUESTIONS into one was such an awesome move, and yes, you deserve a prize :)
ReplyDeleteHa, there is no organisation to my bookshelves whatsoever - it's pretty much find a space and put the book in! Would love to do colour order one day though!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh. As much as arranging my books by colour looks good, I feel like I won't be able to find anything there as well. Love this tag!
ReplyDeleteAhhh, It's nice seeing your shelves! I LOVE bookshelf tags (because there's something wonderful about looking at rows of nicely stacked books XD) and alphabetical seems like a smart way to go. *nods* I do it by colour, but for some reason I have a photographic book memory. For anything else? NOPE. i can't even remember my family's birthdays. But ask me what colour the spine of The Impossible Knife of Memory or ANYTHING I know exactly where it is on my shelf and what colour it is. hehe.
ReplyDeleteAwk, thanks for linking to my bookshelf tour though. ;-)
This tag does look fun! I've actually tried organize my bookshelf both alphabetically and by color, but it never lasts more than a day and I end up switching it back. How I have it organized now... it's really hard to explain because if you look at it there is no real rhyme or reason behind how it's organized, LOL. I have my mythology books on my first shelf, signed books on the second, and then... this is where it starts getting weird, haha. Maybe I'll do this tag and try to figure out how my shelf is organized. Lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat tag! Your bookshelves are lovely and you are super organized. Doing by color is pretty but alphabetical is WAY more practical.
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun post :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing tag, and such an enjoyable post too! Happy reading! :)

This is such a cool tag! I love the tape you have on your shelves
ReplyDeleteLOVE. LOVE. LOVE this tag.
ReplyDeleteLove this tag! I totally would have done this if only I had the time to. I have the exact same set of The Curse Workers trilogy, along with the tragically mismatched cover for Black Heart. (Love that series though!) I organize my books by series, then I organize my series through color! It's really pretty, but I also have so many incomplete series, which sucks.
