Review of Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray
Ever since she used the Firebird, her parents' invention, to cross into alternate dimensions, Marguerite has caught the attention of enemies who will do anything to force her into helping them dominate the multiverse—even hurting the people she loves.
She resists until her boyfriend, Paul, is attacked and his consciousness scattered across multiple dimensions. Marguerite has no choice but to search for each splinter of Paul’s soul.
The hunt sends her racing through a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret.
Each world brings Marguerite one step closer to rescuing Paul. But with each trial she faces, she begins to question the destiny she thought they shared.
Review of Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray
Well, this second book explores that concept in a big way, but I applaud the way it did so. I mean, even if you love someone, that person probably has aspects, traits, habits, that you aren't so crazy about.
Some readers felt that in A Thousand Pieces of You, the relationship between Paul, Marguerite and Theo felt triangle-y.
Another thing I really enjoyed about Ten Thousand Skies Above You it that it used the parallel universe concept to serve up some truly surprising plot twists. And that some of those plot twists involved Marguerite having a moral crisis when she's faced with the repercussions of some of the things she did in book one. The book ends with a very fun twist, one that makes me look forward to the final installment.
The romance is what killed the first one for me, but I'm interested in how it's further explained.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I thought that this was a duology. I may just have to wait til the third one comes out before I pick this one up!
Parallel universe's rarely work for me so I'll probably skip this series although it sounds like she did a good job with the relationships.

Glad to hear this one is good. I just picked p the first one and can't wait to get to it. I love when a series gets better. Great review!
ReplyDeleteYou make this one sound so awesome I better get reading the first book!
ReplyDeleteI really need to make time for this series. I do love Claudia Gray's writing :) A beautiful review, Jen.
ReplyDeleteThe first book was okay for me (3.5 stars) and I was just sent this book but I'm still not sure if I want to read it. Maybe the audio? I'm glad you liked this better than the first book though.
ReplyDeleteIs it crazy that I'm really happy Marguerite faces repercussions for what she did? I was so mad at her after some of those things that I didn't want to read this book, but now I'm looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, I loved the first book in general, but somehow the thing I hated the most was that Marguerite never thought about the lives she probably ruined.
Thanks for your review, Jen!
This series looks fantastic! I bought the first book! Thanks for sharing.

DeleteIt sounds like this second book delves deeper into some issues that you were concerned about. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed this just as much or even more. I have book one and hope to try it soon :)
