Review of P.S. I Like You by Kasie West

P. S. I Like You by Kasie West

To be published by Point Books on July 26, 2016

Synopsis from Goodreads: What if the person you were falling for was a total mystery? While Lily is spacing out in Chemistry one day, she picks up her pencil and scribbles a line from one of her favorite songs on the desk. The next day, someone else has written back to her on the desk! Soon enough Lily and the mystery student are exchanging notes, and lyrics, and even sharing secrets. When Lily finds out that her anonymous pen pal is a guy, she's flustered -- and kind of feels like she's falling for him. She and her best friend set out to unravel the identity of the letter writer -- but when the truth is revealed, the guy is the LAST person Lily could have ever imagined it to be. Now that Lily knows the truth, can she untangle her feelings and gather the courage to listen to her heart?

Review of P.S. I Like You by Kasie West

I'm a big fan of Kasie West's paranormal duology and have also enjoyed her YA contemporaries. While P. S. I Like You wasn't my absolute favorite of her books, it was still a cute, feel-good summer read.

I'll get my own personal issue out of the way first. As much as girls would like to believe that they could have a secret admirer who writes them funny little notes, in my opinion this is just not something that real guys do in real life.

But clearly, since there was another wildly popular YA contemporary featuring a mystery guy who writes cute messages, other readers do not feel the same way.

So ... back to the book. Lily is a bit of a non-conformist - she dresses in her own style and loves writing songs. She hates Chemistry.

One day, she's bored in Chem and is writing down song lyrics on her desk.  Next class she sees that someone wrote back - a guy! Before she knows it, they are exchanging long, heartfelt letters about their lives, their feelings, their problems.

Of course, Lily wants to know who is writing the letters, and comes up with three suspects. To me, it was SOSOSO obvious who the letter writer was, and I was right, but it was still fun watching Lily figure it out.

And I was happy that she did figure it out about halfway through the story, which gave the book some time to work out the romance in real life.  As with all Kasie West books, this also had great friendships and family relationships.

If you love a good secret admirer book, check out PS I Like You!

    1. YES - those are by far my favorites and I hope she writes more outside the contemporary genre!

  2. West's contemporary books tend to be hit or miss for me, especially since I don't particularly enjoy contemporary. But this sounds like something I might like, mostly because she figures it out in time. Great review!

  7. Simon was a game changer! I'm usually not one for cute contemporaries, but there was another book that West wrote that I liked. The Distance Between You perhaps. Thanks for you're honesty! Mysince issue with contemporary novels is that they never seem realistic - but I guess that's what they're selling!

  9. West is an author I haven't tried yet, but I have The Distance Between Us on my shelf, waiting to be read. I almost got to it during my contemporary YA binge, but I started another book. Maybe I'll get to it soon. I'm hearing great things about this one as well.

  13. I sort of have to agree with you - I don't think it's something that people do in real life. It's a shame though, and if it is a fun read I guess it just is what it is...
