Review of Dare You by Jennifer Brown
I'm a mystery fan and a fan of noir-type stories, so I have definitely enjoyed these books. Nikki is a teen with synesthesia who has a pretty complicated life. In the first installment of the series, she's investigating a murder and finding out some family secrets. Pretty much the same in this installment. She's snooping around and also sort-of flirting with the attractive young detective who's working the case.
These books aren't going to be for everyone. They don't feature the kind of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. They remind me a lot of Veronica Mars, if you're a fan of that kind of thing - I am! Like Veronica, Nikki is a bit of a smart ass. Like Veronica, Nikki has a nose for trouble and a complicated love life.
Give these books a try if you're looking for a mystery with that Veronica flair!

Ah, I didn't even know this sequel was out! I loved the first book too :)
ReplyDeleteI liked the first one and am definitely going to pick this one up!
ReplyDeleteI tried to watch Veronica Mars because I had heard great things, but I pretty much suck at sitting down and binging tv! I love the cover for this though, and the synopsis sounds really interesting. I'l keep an eye out for the first book.
