Welcome to week three of #ReadaDessen, a six-week celebration of all things Sarah Dessen and a countdown to the publication of Dessen's new book, Once and For All.
This is one of the two Dessen books I'm reviewing as part of the promotion. I'm also re-reading and re-visiting ALL the books on my own. Be sure to scroll all the way down for trivia!

Plot Summary for This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
When it comes to relationships, Remy doesn't mess around. After all, she's learned all there is to know from her mother, who's currently working on husband number five. But there's something about Dexter that seems to defy all of Remy's rules. He certainly doesn't seem like Mr. Right. For some reason, however, Remy just can't seem to shake him. Could it be that Remy's starting to understand what those love songs are all about?
Review of This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
This is one of my top three Dessen books. I can never resist the chemistry of a tough girl and a sweet guy!To me, This Lullaby is the first really romantic Dessen book, the first in which the heroine acknowledges the risks of falling in love and yet decides to take the plunge.
Remy's a cynical girl. Her father, a musician who was a one-hit wonder with a song called This Lullaby, died when she was young. Her mom, a romance novelist, is a woman who is perpetually falling in and out of love and marriage.
Remy's a serial dumper of guys, and she's headed to college in the fall, so she certainly doesn't have time to fall in love. Especially with a guy like Dexter. He's a musician, like her father. He's perpetually disheveled and charmingly optimistic. He's completely wrong for her - or is he?
In this book, Sarah Dessen looks at a variety of relationships: parent/child, sibling, best friends, spouses ... and Remy and Dexter's romance.
If you haven't read this, you definitely need to!

Ohhh I love the sound of this pairing. The cynical and the optimist. Perfection!
ReplyDeleteI've only read one Dessen - shame on me! It was The Truth About Forever, and I really loved it. Definitely need to explore some more of her stuff.
ReplyDeleteI've never read a Dessen, so this seems like a good place to start. Hope I win.
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to try more Dessen books, and this one sounds like such a sweet romance. I'm all for the romantic interest being a sweet guy. I can totally picture myself falling for this read.
