Ignite Me ... The Morning After

Below is my account of yesterday -- Tuesday, February 4.

SPOILER FREE FOR IGNITE ME.

I am going to avoid Twitter all day. Okay, I am going on for a few minutes so a few blogger friends and I can compare notes about the status of our books and then I am off there like Juliette running away from Warner's first kiss.DisgustingNotDisgusting. Amazon has promised my pre-ordered book by today at 8 pm. Yeah, I've heard those kind of promises before. The uncertainty feels like forks being driven into my eyeballs.

I am beginning to see the appeal of Juliette's notebook with all the cross-outs. It's fun to write down my random thoughts. And I have a lot of them. Who will she choose? I mean, Ignite Me is ALL about the triangle, isn't it? Okay, yes, theoretically there is also a plot involving a resistance and a reestablishment but I mean who even cares about all that.

I will check and see if the book is here.

It's here.

I can't start reading yet because I have to go to the post office. Also, I'm in the middle of another book. I'm in a book love triangle. I love the book I'm reading, but wondering if Ignite Me will tempt me away from the very great book that I'm reading. Just like Warner.

I'll just read a few pages. Except that my bad, bad fingers want to skip to the last page to see who Juliette is making out with.  My fingers obediently turn to the first page. I pretend that if I peek at the end, I will feel a pain as searing as holding hands with Juliette.

I love Kenji so much. I've decided I don't care what happens as long as he doesn't die. Can he have his own novella?

I'm done. The book was 97% relationship drama and 2% talking about superpowers and 1% fighting the reestablishment. There were definitely aspects that I questioned, and I felt emotionally manipulated at times. I wish love triangles didn't have to be so divisive.

That's all I can say without spoilers.

Have you read this? Please NO SPOILERS in comments. Or else I will cross them out just like this.

Comments

  1. I have lots of thoughts and all are spoilery so I will refrain from leaving any here but omg the love triangle drama taking over the whole damn book was beyond ridiculous to me. It took about 3/4 of the book to even get anywhere.

  2. We need to add Sara to our discussion, but I'm ready to let all the spoilers fly! These thoughts made me smile and chuckle.

  3. I wonder how much we as readers determine whether a series focuses on the romance vs. the plot? Did Mafi really comprehend how yummy most of us would find Warner? Because I can say that for me this series was about romance. I'm waiting to read the book bc I'm going to a signing of it later this month, but it's killing me. Thanks for a review that was spoiler free!

  5. Love this:) We've chatted already but I think you have captured Juliette perfectly. You should write fanfiction :) And I second the vote for Kenji to have his own novella/ spin off series. Hear, Hear!

  9. I've got about 20 pages left and yep...it is so 90% romance. But Mafi does it very well so I can't complain. That one chapter...you know which one...was a lot of fun. I think it's sort of funny that no one even pretends this is nothing more than a romance with a back drop of rebellion and super powers. But I can't even mind. I can't say more without spoilers so yea...

  10. Haha, love the review format! I haven't started it yet, I'm waiting until the weekend so work and other distractions don't get in the way of the inevitable binge read, but I'm already dreading all the triangle drama. *sigh*

  12. It was perfect! I can't say more without it being spoilers really. Even though I wanted it to go one way I was still kind of sad when the other guy was a douche. Chapter 55 was awesome though!

  13. I love this idea for a review (and as always-thank you for not including spoilers for those of us who need to catch up-I appreciate that you're so good about that.) I still am behind and am not excited about the love triangle bit but I do hope to finish the series just to appreciate Warner's charisma as a very interesting character!

  15. Since I didn't enjoy the sequel to Shatter Me as much as the first book, I did not preorder Ignite Me, but I am still going to buy it as soon as it comes out in paperback.

  17. I'm just reading this review now because I only read Ignite Me this week and oh my gosh yes 97% relationship drama but I loved loved loved it. "Just like Warner" YES. He sure tempted me away from the other trilogy I was reading, lol! And heck yes Kenji should get his own novella. (I'll probably end up highlighting everything that comes out of his mouth though.)
