On Wednesdays this summer, Steph at TheFakeSteph, Ashelynn of Gypsy Book Reviews, Jenn at OwlReadIt and I are all blogging about our reading (or re-reading) of the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead.
If you've read the books and want to chime in, or if you're curious about this much beloved series, we hope you enjoy following along.
If you missed past posts, you can catch up on my post on Vampire Academy book one here and my post on Frostbite here, my post on Shadow Kiss here.
Since it's summer school, I'm not doing formal reviews, just giving you my thoughts like we're passing notes in class.
New kid alert! Lauren from the Headless Owl has joined our class! And Ashelynn is out of class this week due to technical difficulties.
Week Four assigned reading:

Blood Promise by Richelle Mead.
Very brief plot summary:
Rose leaves Lissa and goes off in search of Dimitri, whom she hasn't seen since the Strigoi attack. She has to find him so she can keep a promise that she made. (It's a Blood Promise, right?) But ... things go wrong. To make matters worse, Rose is terribly worried about Lissa, who doesn't seem to be herself. At all.
What I loved about this book:
Rose travels to Russia
I've always wanted to go to St. Petersburg. Jealous!
Except Rose is there for business, not pleasure. The kind of killing-the-person-you-love-business ... eeep! If I were Ashelynn I would have put that in all caps. But I have more self-control on the keyboard than that!
Sydney! She shows up for the first time in this book and since she has short hair, I imagine her as Michelle Williams:
There are new kids at St. Vlad's and as usual, they're NO GOOD. (Whoops, how did those caps sneak in there?)
Lissa's having a hard time with Rose away:
But, to be honest, at 55% way through Blood Promise, I'm getting a little restless. Not a lot is happening. Then, all of a sudden WHOA NOW WE ARE TALKING! Look who's here:
Dimitri shows up and I think Rose is capable of doing what she came to do, but no. She can't. Because she's so torn between doing what she thinks Dimitri would want and the fact that she loves him.
But then FINALLY she's back to herself and does what she needs to do:
How do I know Rose is back to herself? Because she tells Adrian to write her an outline detailing why he would be a good boyfriend. An OUTLINE?
And Adrian is all, "I'm on it." What????
All of this is terribly upsetting, so I can't wait to dive into the next book, which Jen M from Some Like It Paranormal promises is all kinds of awesome.

Leave a comment and tell me what you think, but don't tell me what happens next!
OMG!!!! I wish I had finished. I'll have to finish tonight!!! Your comment on the CAPS is HILARIOUS. The more I read Ashelynn's blog and talk to her the more I LOSE CONTROL OF THE KEYBOARD. I love Sydney, too. And now I want to go to Russia.
ReplyDeleteAnd Lauren from The Headless Owl said she was going to join in, too. But I forgot to tell you.
DeleteI seriously love these recaps. If I had the time, I'd re-read this series because I love it so, but I still haven't even gotten to The Golden Lily yet! I've got my priorities! :D
ReplyDeleteLoved Bloodlines and the Golden Lily. And I've probably have loved them even more if I'd read this series first!!
DeleteI'm really enjoying these recaps even though I'm still a little shaky on the names-it sounds like there are a lot of people to keep track of in these books.
ReplyDeleteThat's true. The main characters stay the same, though there are secondary ones who come and go!
DeleteThese recaps are so fun. I gave up on trying to read the series for now. I only got 5 chapters in, but I have so many other books that I need or want to read more. I will eventually read this series.
ReplyDeleteI know -- I'm finally tackling the Clockwork Angel series. It's hard to squeeze a huge series into your regular reading.
DeleteLove your recaps and pics. Glad you're enjoying and can't wait to see what you think about the next one.
ReplyDeleteBrandi from Blkosiner’s Book Blog
Me either!!
DeleteOh, the outline lol. Even with Dimitri bad, I still like him better than Adrain even though I like Adrain to. Love the pics!

Well, you'll see next time what I thought of Dimitri bad!
DeleteLove the format of this post! So hilarious and fun. Thanks for letting me join in, and you're so right about the outline! I was so surprised Adrian actually agreed to that, and I really hope we get to read it because I have a feeling it's either really funny or really sweet. Another great recap, and can't wait to see what you think of book 5 next week. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm excited too! Okay, I'm back from my trip and added your link to my post!
DeleteI love how you do these reviews Jen! Sydney is here! LOL :)
ReplyDeleteI know -- she's back. I really love Sydney. She's so adorably clueless about guys!
DeleteOh boy! Blood Promise was all kinds of intense! Seriously, the pictures you find are awesome, esp that Dimitri picture :D I am in love with this series :D
ReplyDeleteThat's a funny pic of Lissa, too! It's almost crazily accurate. I hope you're really enjoying this series! I definitely couldn't put it down when I read it a long time ago.
I didn't even realize it was the guy from Friday Night Lights. My family watched that without me and said it was amazing!
DeletePassing notes in class - now there's a category.
ReplyDeleteI love the NO GOOD in capitals.
Yep, I did get caught passing notes once and the teacher read it out loud to the class. So embarrassing!!!!
DeleteI love, wait, LOVE Blood Promise! Adrian's all badass in it and I love the Russian adventure. I am realizing through your recap though that there is a lot I don't remember. I may just have to read it again...
ReplyDeleteI thought it was great that Adrian was all like "I'm on it!" I'm looking forward to reading the next book after that ending..lol
ReplyDeleteIt was cool to meet Sydney finally!
I loved this book almost as much as Shadow Kiss, almost!
Love the recap! I really need to reread the series. Blood Promise TORE ME UP. Gah, so good.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
I love your reviews for VA. :) My favourite book was/is Shadow Kiss but I love this book to. I hope you'll enjoy next one! :)
ReplyDeleteI actually really liked this one even though it is frustrating. I loved how Mead brought in Dimitri and let him be a Strigoi and you really don't know what's going to happen, especially as some authors don't always keep all the characters and in the same roles. I'm going to have to start on the Bloodlines series because you are making me miss her writing and these characters. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! Epic recap! :) I seriously love all the pictures you included! Ooh, I love that picture of Russia... And I love the To do List... and Adrian's outline! That was so sweet of him! :P And ha! Lissa hanging on the roof. LOL! :D
